Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 54 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.

Data Science and Administration Division is one of the departments in the institute and is responsible for overseeing data administration, cleaning, and analysis, as well as designing research methodologies and providing support to AHRI researchers and postgraduate students. Therefore, the Data Science and Administration Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative and energetic Project Coordinator to join our diverse team.

The Project Coordinator will be affiliated to Knowledge Management Directorate report to the Project PIs at AHRI.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth collaboration among all partners by organizing regular joint meetings.

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Understand the study protocol and coordinate key study activities 

  • Attends investigator meetings as required or requested by the PI.

  • Collaborates with the PI to prepare reports to partners, stakeholders and regional health bureau 

  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to deadlines.

  • Prepare and present regular project updates to stakeholders

  • Coordinate the planned capacity building activities between AHRI and collaborators.

  • Ensure internal and external project reports on the status, progress and outcomes are submitted to the funder on time.

  • Review project progress and training reports for quality assurance.

  • Oversee project meetings, outreach efforts to continental bodies and various partners.

  • Contribute to development of the project workplan and planning of key meetings.

  • Ensure that the project deliverables meet quality standards and funders expectations.

  • Assists PI in communication of study requirements to all individuals involved in the study. Provides appropriate training and tools for study team members. Documents date of training and signatures of study personnel trained on study specific training log.

  • Collect necessary and important documents to initiate the project and submit donor. 

  • Maintains project timelines and delivery of key milestones. 

  • Completes study documentation and maintains study files in accordance with sponsor requirements and AHRI policies and procedures including. 

  • Maintains effective and on-going communication with funder, collaborators and regional health bureau 

  • Works with the PI to manage the day-to-day activities of the study including problem solving, communication and protocol management. 

  • Collaborate with data scientists to derive actionable insights from data sets.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of project activities and data methodologies.

  • Prepare detailed reports and publications based on project findings.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and data protection regulations.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. 

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • BSc degree in Public Health, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, AND 2 years work experience in a related field relevant to this position; OR MSc degree in Public health, Statistics or Computer Science, and Data Science.  

  • Project coordination experience highly preferable.

  • Experience of activity coordination with Health Demographic Surveillance Ssite, clinicians, clinical expert teams, at national and sub-national host government entities.

  • Familiarity with health research methodologies and ethical considerations.

  • Experience with DHIS 2 for health data management and analysis. 

  • Experience in relationship management with donors, partners, stakeholders in an international environment.

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partner at all levels (ministry, donors, private sector, NGO’s and local community-based organization).

  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English.

  • Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability
