Job Description

VIS Ethiopia is seeking a candidate for the position of Field Officer. The Field Officer will be working under the project: SAFE-TIGRAY: Inclusive humanitarian initiative in favor of food security and the protection of the displaced population and host communities in conditions of greatest vulnerability in the Adwa woreda in Tigray”, which is funded by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS), and it is going to be implemented in Adwa woreda and surrounding rural areas, Central Zones of the Tigray Region in Ethiopia. 

To contribute to mitigate the effects of multiple shocks on the most vulnerable population, strengthening the link between humanitarian action, development and peace in the Tigray Region.

To improve food security of internally displaced people and the most vulnerable population of the host communities, with particular attention to the gender dimension and the inclusion of people with disabilities, in Adwa, Central Zone of Tigray region.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the VIS-Project Coordinator Tigray, the field officer is responsible for the proper implementation of the project activities aimed at improving the food security of internally displaced people and the most vulnerable populations of the host communities in the project areas. He/she will ensure smooth operations of the project and consistency of project implementation with VIS rules and regulations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and implement the project activities in the target woredas, verifying their proper implementation using the logical framework tool and referring to the indicators established therein; 

  • Organize the work plan for the implementation of activities, adapting the implementing strategy to the context if unforeseen events arise, in accordance with the project objectives and expected results, under the direct supervision of the VIS-Project Coordinator Tigray, and in collaboration with partner organizations. 

  • Verify and ensure that activities are executed according to the validated chronogram; 

  • Support the VIS-Project Coordinator Tigray in the preparation of interim and final reports; 

  • Collection and transmission of all additional information and data requested by the Project Manager; 

  • Participate in meetings and clusters in the areas identified in the project to ensure appropriate coordination with the initiatives of other international/local donors/actors, avoiding operational overlaps and promoting positive synergies.  

Duration: 12 months period

Salary Range: In birr 25,000.00-30,000.00 basic salary based on experience and qualification  

Job Requirements

  • Required qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Development Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, Agriculture, or a related field. 

  • Any other specialized qualifications: Possession of certificates attesting to participation in courses related to international cooperation (particularly Project Cycle Management) will be considered a preferential requirement.

  • Degree of work experience in the area of professional expertise: At least 3 years of field experience and at least three years of practical work experience in developmental and emergency-related areas, particularly interventions in the emergency and livelihoods sector.

  • Prior experience working in the Tigray Region, specifically in Adwa areas, will be considered an added value.

  • Fluency in spoken and written Amharic and Tigrigna languages, excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English 

  • INGO experience is an asset
