We are looking for a Project Manager who is responsible to manage a GAVI funded implementation research project on HPV vaccination. This project will be implemented in three regions, Oromia, Sidama and Somali in four woredas/districts. Addis Ababa University, School of Public Health, Center for Implementation Sciences is a sub awardee for this project. Hence, the project manager will be specifically responsible for coordinating the implementation of this research in collaboration with the research investigators from both PSI and AAU.  The position is also responsible to work hand in hand with PSI and AAU’s field team to ensure seamless implementation of the research project. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the project's initiation, such as finalizing contractual agreement, budget transfer, document preparation, IRB, etc.

  • Coordinate, integrate, and monitor the performances of the implementation, program learning, and evaluation activities.

  • Plan, coordinate meetings, take notes, and routinely communicate investigators, regional health bureaus and ministry of health.

  • Recruit, train, deploy, and supervise project officers.

  • Working closely with the study PIs and investigators prepare standard operating procedure.

  • Under the guidance of the project Co-PI and working hand in hand with PSIE’s program and operation staff, manage the routine day-to-day project operation including logistics and administration aspects of the project. 

  • Develop program and financial reports and submit to the donor and government counterparts 

  • Oversee budgets, supplies, software and equipment, and directly supervise the field staff

  • Contribute to the development of relevant and publishable peer reviewed articles 

  • Execute other tasks given by the project PI/Co-PI/Co-Investigators 

Project Manager will be based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to implementation research sites.

People Management  

  • Technically line manages and supports the regional level project teams with a particular focus on project officers.

  • Conducts virtual and onsite workflow monitoring and analyses with the research investigators and field team.

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external teams including AAU, MOH, RHBs, etc to facilitate the smooth implementation of the research project.

  • In consultation /collaboration with SRH program director, RSIE director and research investigators, prepare review meetings, collect feedback and identify actionable items as a way forward.

  • Provides motivation, leadership, and project field officers.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health/RH, population studies or related fields with six (6) years of demonstrated experience in Ethiopian Primary Health Care system and at least two years of related experience in implementation research project or similar projects preferably on immunization OR 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, SRH, population studies or related fields with eight (8) years of demonstrated experience in Ethiopian Primary Health Care system and at least two years of related experience in implementation research project or similar projects preferably on immunization.

  • Able to work within a complex program set up that involves government, implementing partner and high touch donor. 

  • Experience working with international organizations and partners. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage communication and partnership with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, collaborators, stakeholders, and team members and be an ambassador for HPV vaccination project.

  • Written and verbal fluency in English is required.
