The Chinese Translator is responsible for providing real-time, on-site translation services during patient appointments, consultations, and other care-related interactions in the OPD and IPD. The incumbent will accurately interpret and translate conversations, medical terminology, instructions, and documentation between English, Arabic, and Somali to facilitate effective communication and understanding between patients and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time, on-site translation services during patient appointments, consultations, and other care-related interactions in the OPD and IPD

• Accurately interpret and translate conversations, medical terminology, instructions, and documentation between English and Amharic 

• Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information at all times

• Assist with the translation of written materials such as consent forms, discharge instructions, and educational resources

• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify information and resolve any language-related misunderstandings

• Maintain familiarity with medical terminology and procedures to provide appropriate translation

• Act as a cultural broker to bridge gaps and facilitate mutual understanding between patients and providers

• Participate in training programs to continuously improve translation skills and medical knowledge

• Maintain accurate records and documentation of translation services provided

• Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Fluency in English & Amharic written

• Demonstrated experience as a professional translator/interpreter, preferably in a healthcare setting

• Strong medical terminology knowledge and familiarity with healthcare procedures and processes

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
