Job Description

The Depot Sales Manager at East Africa National Distribution SC. is responsible for managing the sales operations at a specific depot, ensuring that sales targets are met and that the depot operates efficiently. This role involves overseeing the daily sales activities, managing customer relationships, supervising depot staff, and coordinating with the Regional Sales Manager to align depot-level strategies with regional objectives. The Depot Sales Manager plays a critical role in driving revenue growth and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction within the assigned territory.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Sales Strategy and Execution:

    • Develop and implement sales strategies at the depot level to achieve sales targets and revenue goals.

    • Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies as needed to meet or exceed targets.

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the depot's territory, including expanding the customer base and increasing market share.

    • Coordinate with the Regional Sales Manager to align depot-level sales activities with regional and national sales objectives.

  2. Customer Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, and partners within the depot's territory.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

    • Conduct regular customer visits and follow-ups to understand their needs, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling.

    • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of customer orders, coordinating with the depot staff and other departments as necessary.

  3. Depot Operations Management:

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the depot, ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently and in compliance with company policies.

    • Manage inventory levels at the depot, ensuring that stock is maintained at optimal levels to meet customer demand while minimizing excess inventory.

    • Supervise depot staff, including sales representatives and warehouse personnel, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.

    • Ensure that the depot operates safely and adheres to all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations.

  4. Sales Reporting and Analysis:

    • Prepare and submit regular sales reports to the Regional Sales Manager, including performance metrics, sales trends, and forecasts.

    • Analyze sales data to identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) within the depot's territory.

    • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and improve sales performance at the depot level.

    • Monitor and report on competitor activities and market conditions within the depot's territory.

  5. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead, motivate, and develop the depot sales team, fostering a positive and results-oriented work environment.

    • Provide training and development opportunities for depot staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.

    • Set clear performance expectations for the sales team and conduct regular performance reviews.

    • Implement team-building initiatives to improve collaboration, communication, and overall team performance.

  6. Budgeting and Cost Management:

    • Manage the depot's sales budget, ensuring that expenses are controlled and aligned with revenue goals.

    • Monitor and analyze financial performance, including sales revenue, expenses, and profitability.

    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies within the depot.

    • Provide regular financial reports to the Regional Sales Manager, including budget variances and corrective actions.

  7. Market Development and Expansion:

    • Identify and evaluate new market opportunities within the depot's territory, including potential customer segments and geographic areas for expansion.

    • Develop and implement market entry strategies for new products or services offered by the company.

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to execute promotional activities, product launches, and sales campaigns at the depot level.

    • Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to maintain a competitive edge.

  8. Risk Management and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all sales activities at the depot comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.

    • Identify and manage risks associated with sales operations, customer relationships, and depot management.

    • Implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the depot and the company from potential losses or liabilities.

    • Ensure that all safety, health, and environmental standards are met within the depot's operations.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.

  • A Master’s degree or relevant certifications in Sales Management will be an added

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales management, preferably within the cement, construction materials, or related industries.

  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing sales teams at a depot or regional level.

  • Experience in depot or branch management is highly desirable.
