Job Description
Senior Logistics Officer in East African Distribution SC. is responsible for managing day-to-day logistics operations, ensuring the efficient movement of goods, effective inventory management, and timely distribution across the company’s supply chain. This role supports the Logistics Manager in implementing logistics strategies, optimizing processes, and coordinating with various teams to meet the company’s operational goals. The Senior Logistics Officer plays a key role in enhancing logistics performance, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and improving overall supply chain efficiency.
Logistics Operations Management:
Oversee daily logistics activities, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to manage inbound and outbound shipments (If needed).
Monitor and manage the movement of goods across different locations, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
Inventory Management:
Manage inventory levels to ensure the availability of products while minimizing excess stock and obsolescence.
Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate records.
Implement inventory control procedures to improve accuracy and reduce losses.
Transportation Coordination:
Coordinate transportation schedules, ensuring optimal route planning and vehicle utilization.
Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, monitoring performance and ensuring service quality.
Address any transportation-related issues, such as delays or damages, to ensure smooth operations.
Warehousing and Storage:
Oversee warehousing operations, including receiving, storing, and dispatching goods.
Ensure that warehouse space is utilized efficiently and that safety and cleanliness standards are maintained.
Implement best practices in warehouse management to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements within logistics operations and work with the Logistics Manager to implement changes.
Leverage technology to enhance logistics efficiency, including the use of warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS).
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and suggest actions to improve logistics performance.
Compliance and Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental standards in logistics operations.
Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential disruptions in the supply chain.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all logistics activities to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
Team Leadership and Development:
Supervise and mentor junior logistics staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the logistics team.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare regular reports on logistics performance, including inventory levels, transportation costs, and delivery timelines.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all logistics activities, including shipping documents, inventory records, and compliance certifications.
Provide insights and recommendations to the Logistics Manager based on data analysis and operational performance.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification in logistics or supply chain management is an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
Proven experience in managing day-to-day logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and inventory management.
Experience in FMCG sectors is advantageous
Experience in supervising and mentoring logistics teams.
