GIZ- Internal/External Vacancy Announcement ‘#103/2024’

Forests for Future (F4F) Project - Climate Change Cluster

Contract Duration: Six Months

The Forests4Future (F4F) project is part of a global project to support the implementation of the AFR100 commitments of Ethiopia, Madagascar, Togo, Cameroon, Benin, and Ivory cost.  

The F4F Ethiopia project aims to rehabilitate the ecological and productive functions of degraded terrestrial ecosystems towards landscapes and forests, sustainable wood production, sustainable agriculture, mixed agroforestry systems, and the rehabilitation of pastures and wetlands. It strengthens the resilience of entire landscapes and improves the well-being of populations. 

The internship assignment is to assist in the operational area, particularly emphasizing support in the school FLR engagement, data acquisition (socio-economic and biophysical), and proper documentation. 

The internship will last Three months from the 1st of October 2024 to the 30th of December 2024 with possible extension until the 31st of March 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical guidance and coaching on school Forest Landscape Restoration Implementation

  • Assist in planning and organizing mini-environmental projects such as clean-up drives, tree planting, etc

  • Educational outreach; Develop environmental educational materials or presentations to raise awareness about environmental issues.

  • Organize peer-to-peer exchanges on topics such as environmental degradation, climate change impact, restoration, afforestation, and conservation.

  • Event facilitation in the school; help plan and coordinate environmental events, experience sharing, etc.

  • Advise school staff and management to ensure environmental club activities align with extra-curricular activities

  • Make proper documentation and report to the technical team 

Project data management support  

  • Assist the development of data and information collection templates and make Amharic translations whenever needed

  • Accompany the project field experts during data collection activities, such as socio-economic data, agroforestry implementation, small and micro enterprises, etc. 

  • Support the partner in collecting georeferenced data and compiling them in a GIS platform.

  • Help organize and compile data into clear, structured documents or reports.

Event organization and facilitation assistance to the field team

  • Support in taking attendance and discussion minutes during training    and events 

  •  Support the evaluation of training by the training participants 

  • Support in some logistics arrangements as per the need from the technical and Admin & finance team 

  • Support in availing and arranging training materials 

  • Communication and facilitation with partners and service providers 

Support bridging communication 

  • Support in Amharic translations of verbal communication during events whenever needed 

  • Take over responsibilities of the team in Arba Minch during their absence

  • Support the team with drafting communication products 

Collaborate with the program aligned to needs and interests

  • To support the technical team in any other project assignment as needed 

  • To contribute to the overall success of the project 

Job Requirements

To qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college or university and be in their final year or have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of application. 

The candidate must have at least a bachelor’s in forestry; Natural resource management, Agriculture, or Rural. 

• Previous involvement in school clubs or experience in working with schools is an asset 

  • Very good Amharic and English language skills verbal and written 

  • Interest in forest landscape restoration 

  • Dedication to work in development cooperation

  • Stress tolerant and open-minded
