Job Description
Postdoctoral Position
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through the collaborative efforts of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, alongside the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia and it is named after the Norwegian physician Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first identified the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI has planned to recruit a postdoctoral fellow for the PEP4LEP project. This initiative aims to disrupt the transmission of Mycobacterium leprae by identifying the most effective and feasible methods for screening individuals at risk of developing leprosy and administering chemoprophylaxis. The project is a multi-country consortium effort funded by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP).
Requirements:
knowledge and experience in community based interventional studies
knowledge in basic statistics and associated statistical tools for quantitative and qualitative studies
Excellent ability in leading teams
Excellent in scientific communication
a background knowledge in leprosy demonstrated with at least one first author in peer-reviewed journal.
Duties:
Support the project team in preparing field plan and organizing data collection
Monitor and supervise field work in East Hararghe
Facilitate and perform QC activities
Conduct cost effectiveness, capacity assessment of health workers, and additional qualitative studies
Lead the local data analysis in consultation with the Scientific PI, and the task force
Lead the objective to assess the impact of COVID-19 in the study area particularly in leprosy control activities
Prepare scientific and technical reports, short communications, manuscripts, and other materials as needed
Supervise MSc students
Qualification:
PhD degree obtained in the last 2 years in biomedical sciences, infectious diseases, and other related fields.
Duration:
The fellowship will be for 18 months, subject to annual contract renewal
