Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

Data collector  will be reporting to M&E Officer. The data collectors will be responsible to collect quality data by maintaining the different data quality assurance parameters – completeness, consistency, accuracy and timeliness. S/he will be bound by NRC Data Protection Policy on data management.

Generic Responsibilities 

The main duty of the Data Collector is to ensure that the assigned data collection areas(Woreda) and beneficiaries are covered within the planned timeline. 

  • Adhere to NRC Policies, guidance, and procedures.

  • Carry beneficiary awareness and make arrangement on the distribution of the Food, Cash and NFI. 

  • Ensure beneficiary are prepared and aware on the food distributions, amount to received, Dates of distributions, and follow up on the smooth distribution.

  • Ensure Relief distributions are conducted in accordance with set standards.

  • Beneficiary targeting, sensitization, selection, registration, and verification. 

  • Actively promote PSEA (prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse) standards & principles with NRC and amongst beneficiaries served by NRC

 Specific Responsibilities 

 Data Collection:  Collects various forms of data pertaining to the projects.  Collect data in a specified tool  and ensure its timely submission to the specified lead coordinator;

  • Maintain the quality of data to the highest standard.

  • Record Keeping.  Keeps record of information obtained from beneficiaries.

  • Ensure food distribution conducted in accordance with the good distribution standards.

  • Beneficiary targeting, sensitization, selection, registration and verification. 

  • Ensure protection of beneficiary data .

  • Plan and organize over all schedule of travelling to the IDP villages and other data collection sites .

  • Ensure beneficiaries data are recorded in accordance with the data protection procedures. 

  • monitor protection risks related to this distribution.

Ensure the data collection tools uploaded into the system and equipment’s and safely handled. 

Job Requirements

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance. 

Generic professional competencies: 

  • Diploma or University graduate with experience in social science, economics, rural development or in other related fields with experience in humanitarian context.

  •  At least 1 and above years’ experience from working as a data Collector/distributions Programme 

  • S/he should be able to meet deadlines. Good in spoken and written English is necessary. Knowledge of humanitarian principles and code of conduct is essential.

  • Previous experience of data collection with NGOs preferred Plus Kobo system & tool advantage. 

  • Knowledge of local language (mandatory)

 Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Computer skills (common Microsoft Windows and Office applications)

  • Previous experience with mobile data collection methods and other online data collection tools

  • Good organizational skills, including, ability to work to deadlines and to priorities.

  • Good knowledge of the culture and language of the local community

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting.
