Job Description

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

The caregiver in Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) provides a safe and nurturing environment for children in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. They engage children in recreational, educational, and psychosocial activities, ensuring their emotional well-being and safety. The caregiver collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to support holistic care and follows child protection principles to create a secure and supportive space for children

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in the Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS).

  • Supervise and engage with children during structured activities, playtime, and rest periods.

  • Support the emotional and social well-being of children by fostering positive interactions and providing appropriate care.

  • Facilitate age-appropriate recreational, educational, and psychosocial activities for children.

  • Monitor children’s behavior, identifying signs of distress or vulnerability, and report any concerns to the CFS Coordinator.

  • Ensure child protection principles are followed, creating a safe space where children feel respected and secure.

  • Maintain daily attendance records and activity logs.

  • Provide first aid when necessary and follow established protocols for emergencies.

  • Work closely with other team members (e.g., psychologists, social workers) to ensure holistic care and support for children.

  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their children's progress and well-being.

  • Participate in training sessions on child protection, safety, and psychosocial support.

  • Ensure that all equipment and materials in the CFS are well-maintained, organized, and safe for use.

  • Uphold confidentiality and protect the privacy of children and their families.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Diploma in Social Sciences

  • Experience working with children, especially in vulnerable or crisis contexts.

  • Knowledge of child development and child protection principles.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient approach.

  • Ability to work in high-stress, low-resource environments.

  • Basic understanding of first aid and emergency response.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in humanitarian or emergency settings, especially in working with internally displaced persons (IDP).

  • Certification in child protection or psychosocial support.

  • Understanding of trauma-informed care.

LANGUAGE 

Required: Amharic and English
