The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant positions the details of which are mentioned bellow. 

About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society 

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee and 5871 Kebele Red Cross committees.

ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

Job Summary 

Under the general direction and supervision of the regional branch head, membership and volunteers management expert plans, organizes, directs and controls membership and volunteer management activities of the regional branch; Identify, demarcate and recruit corporate members which have region-wide existence; Monitors and coordinates the recruitment of members and volunteers from the community within the region based on corporate targets set at HQ level; Encourage members and volunteers (including youth) to participate in decision making. Devises effective ways for recruiting members and all categories of volunteers including, professional, community volunteers and youths to partner and support the Society’s regional programs; Establish and update regional records/ database that includes basic information about their volunteers and members; Mobilizes and manage members and volunteers, and collects membership fees within the region whom their membership is at the regional branch; Deploys volunteers through the activities of the Society; and monitors members and volunteers management at zonal level; Facilitate coordination and communication mechanisms with regional authorities in the mobilization and deployment of volunteers. Build capacities of zonal branches in the membership and volunteers’ management activities; Implement strategies to disseminate and expand the Red Cross Youth Movement among the young and the rest of the community; coordinates the branches effort to attain this objective; Enforce zonal and woreda branches and facilitate strategic alliance with membership-based institutions to recruit new members and volunteers; Set a realistic annual target of membership and volunteers taking into account various factors such as gender and geographic disparity

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls membership and volunteer management activities of the regional branch;  Identify, demarcate and recruit corporate members which have region-wide existence;

  • Monitors and coordinates recruitment of  members and volunteers from the community with in the region based on corporate targets set at HQ level; Encourage members and volunteers (including youth) to participate in decision making.

  • Devises effective ways for recruiting members and all categories of volunteers including, professional, community volunteers and youths to partner and support the Society’s regional programs;

  • Establish and update regional records/ database that include basic information about their volunteers and members; 

  • Mobilizes and manage members and volunteers, and collects membership fees within the region whom their membership is at the regional branch; Deploys volunteers through the activities of the Society; and monitors members and volunteers management at zonal level; 

  • Facilitate coordination and communication mechanisms with regional authorities in the mobilization and deployment of volunteers.

  • Build capacities of zonal branches in the membership and volunteers management activities;

  • Ensures  the proper handling of members and volunteers data-base; at the regional, zonal and woreda branch; periodically reports to the HQ status of members and volunteers management ; Makes sure that volunteers training programs and experience sharing forums are properly planned, organized and attended;

  •  Develops mechanism for recruiting volunteers, their engagement and deployment, and increasing membership  number within the region.

  •  Establish coordination and communication mechanisms with regional authorities in the mobilization and deployment of volunteers.; Implement strategies to disseminate  and expand the Red Cross Youth Movement among the young and the rest of the community; coordinates the branches effort to attain this objective;

  • Assists zonal and woreda branches in mobilizing members, volunteers and Red Cross youth council to provide voluntary services in areas where volunteer services are required; evaluates the effectiveness of existing volunteer services;

  • Identify and propose cooperation and partnership with other Regional Volunteer based organizations; In collaboration with Capacity Building Unit of the HQs, provide technical assistance and capacity building in addition to monitoring the performance of zonal and woreda branches on volunteers and membership drive;

  • Devise, implement and recommend innovative strategy for membership and volunteer mobilization within the Region;

  • Enforce zonal and woreda branches and facilitate strategic alliance with membership based institutions (such as teachers associations, nurses association, midwifery associations, confederation of trade unions, chamber of commerce), schools and higher education institutions (universities) to recruit new members and volunteers;

  • Set realistic annual target of membership and volunteers taking into account various factors such as: gender and geographic disparity; Ensure Volunteers and members are informed through bi-annual ‘catchment meetings’ at the Red cross Kebeles structures about the performance of the NS and the contribution it makes; 

  • Implement Volunteers and members complaint &feedback mechanism; Ensure and facilitate cooperation with concerned regional government authorities for the volunteer’s incentive and recognition; 

  • Develops mechanisms for the formation of Red Cross Youth Club in and out of schools, woreda and Kebele Red Cross units; Encourage membership and volunteer online registration system to be applied in all zonal and woreda branches of the society;

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Second/First degree in Pedagogical Science/Social Work/ Sociology/ Social Anthropology/ Social Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ Public Administration/ Business Administration/ Regional and Local Development Studies/ development studies/ Management / Political Science & International Relations 

  • 2/4 years relevant experience
