Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage staff, coordinate mining and monitor all site systems to ensure that quarries, pits and mining sites operate successfully.

  1. Contributes in developing Lemi National Cement strategy, communicates with other functional/departmental managers so as to understand all the necessary needs of Quarry and Mining in light with the Plant goals and vision.

    1. Communicate with his direct report so as to develop the annual business plan including the key performance, targets, needed resources and budget to achieve the Plant’s mission and strategic objectives.

    2. Presents, analyze and compares the actual performance, expenditure of the department against the business plan, through regular meetings with the Plant Manager.

    3. Manage and control department expenditure within agreed budgets.

    4. Setting the drilling and blasting monthly plans.

    5. Following up the implementation of the drilling and blasting plans.

    6. Insures that the mining activities are carried out within the framework of the legal requirements.

    7. Reviews daily quarry production report and recommend ways for improvements.

    8. Reporting the Mining Office with the company’s mining performance monthly.

    9. Preparing reports to any governmental bodies when requested.

    10. Carries out all mining related achievements with minimum cost of production.

    11. Responsible for meeting the raw materials with the production targets as required by the plant operations.

    12. Supervising the raw material quantity.

    13. Checking daily drilling and mining activities report.

    14. Managing the quarry and crusher's daily performance and the maintenance of the quarry machineries.

    15. Follow up the raw materials transporting according to the production plan.

    16. Identifying the daily problems and finds solutions.

    17. Reviewing daily activities reports and submits to the Plant Manager.

    18. Preparing the blasting report when needed.

    19. Reporting the Plant Manager with the monthly Quarry performance.

    20. Requesting safety tools for his subordinates and for himself.

    21. Get safety work permission from the HSE department before performing any activity.

    22. Ensuring his subordinates commitment to the safety regulations.

    23. Be a role model to his subordinates by complying with company policies, procedures, rules and regulations as they pertain to safety.

    24. Attends regular safety meetings.

    25. Knows the company’s safety goals and expectations.

    26. Ensures that all the safety rules and regulations are followed within the entire operation of quarry/crushers.

    27. Responsible for the identification and recommendation of each team members training needs and individual development program to attain multi-skilled personnel, assign the work with subordinates and follow up implementation and progress.

    28. Conducts daily departmental meeting, monthly departmental performance review meeting and conveys management policies to subordinates.

    29. Manages teams by defining the missions and objectives of the department and eventually the company, encourages proactive maintenance, facilities communication and relationships

    30. Recommends promotion, termination of subordinates, disciplines erring subordinates.

    31. Plans and supervise his subordinate duties/achievements.

    32. Ongoing evaluation for staff performance and ensure clear understanding for areas of weakness and strengths & making action plans for improvement.

    33. Monitoring and reporting on activities, costs, performance, etc. as required.

    34.  Assume other duties assigned by the Plant Manager.

Job Requirements

BSc/MSc in Mining Engineering or related discipline                                                  BSc/MSc in Geology or related discipline
11/9 years relevant experience out of which at least 4/3 years in related managerial position working in Cement Factory Advantageous
