Job Description

Utility operator is responsible to apply safety agenda in the daily job, operate and execute qualitative way the required processes (Brewing & Utilities), while improving the key performance indicators and production losses. Strive for shop floor excellence and improvements. Ensures all parameters, gages, controlled devices, oil levels, water levels are kept as per the instruction manuals.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Operate the plants economically and effectively.

  • Checks the water quality for corrosion, microbial fouling, and scaling, etc inhibition.

  • Ensure that required pressure (air/refrigerant) and temperature (cooling) reached every time so that operation runs uninterruptedly.

  • Ensures that valves are easily opened and closed, pipes, reservoirs are free of any leakage.

  • Periodically inspects the pipes, evaporators, condensers and other heat exchange units for possible fouling and takes corrective measures.

  • Conducts maintenance & repair work if any malfunction or unusual operation in any of the machines/equipment detected.

  • Read flow meters, gauges and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine and fluoride levels

  • Operate and monitor water treatment equipment and processes to ensure the delivery of clean and safe drinking water to the community.

  • Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content, analyze test results and instrument readings and adjust plant equipment and systems to ensure quality control

  • Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water

  • Attends and records output reading every hour.

  • Leads the weekly general cleaning activities and annual machinery maintenance program.

  • Observes safety regulations at all times.

  • Performs related task as required.

  • Ensures that all machineries/equipment and control devices in the plant are properly functioning.

  • Ensures the CO2 produced in the fermentation process received by the plant receptacle/balloon timely.

  • Ensures the different unit operations (scrubbing, adsorbing, compression, drying, liquefaction etc) are functioning against preset standards and parameters and operate accordingly.

  • Operate the liquid CO2 filling high pressure pump for cylinder filling prudently.

  • Makes sure that the cylinders have passed thru proper tests periodically.

  • Collects data and records the required parameters.

  • Checks the purity of the CO2 produced in the plant.

  • Checks the proper functioning of valves that regulates the flow to the filling machine, BBT tanks and for other areas where CO2 is needed.

  • Maintains machinery/equipment and follow -up the smooth operation.

  • Records daily production, consumption (by other plants) and filled into cylinders.

  • Checks different media are periodically cleaned or charged.

  • Fills water in the boiler, ensures that water is treated to the standard before charging.

  • Ensures if all inputs are available in adequate quantity and quality.

  • Ensures that the fuel is properly ignited.

  • Starts the boiler for operation and checks the proper distribution of the steam to the different areas requiring the steam as per the preset pressure. Ensure that operation is economical and effective.

  • Checks regularly the proper functioning of the primary and secondary control devices to the boiler and its accessories.

  • Ensures photo cells, ignition electrode, filters and film glasses are clean.

  • Periodically inspects the pipes and shell side of the boiler for possible fouling and takes corrective measures.

  • Checks whether all chemical dosing units are functional and take records of boiler feed water and steam parameters. Accordingly makes corrective measures.

  • Conducts maintenance work periodically and during annual maintenance reports problems beyond capacity.

  • Observes safety regulation at all times.

  • Performs related task as required.

Job Requirements

Academic requirement:

  • BSC/ diploma in machine operation  or related fields 

Work experience:

  •  2/4 years of relevant experience 

Additional Competencies: 

  • Carry out external cleaning of the plant and work area according to standard procedures.

  • Identify and communicate non-routine and breakdown maintenance tasks to relevant personnel.

  • Check and accept the plant as fit and safe for use after planned and/or breakdown maintenance.

  • Report deviances and equipment defects.
