Job Title: Amharic News Editor

This role is for an individual who is able to maintain high standards of ethical and objective reporting. The Editor will be in charge of overseeing the flow of information in the newsroom. 

• Come up with a weekly and monthly content calendar for special stories;

• Chair daily editorial meetings to plan content for the day and review project deadlines;

• Develop story and content ideas according to the website’s editorial philosophy and policies;

• Ensure content published on the website meets the needs of the target audience and journalistic standards;

• Guide on which stories will be covered, assign reporters and direct how the story will be packaged;

• Make stories have appropriate context and background;

• Collaborate with the reporters to develop unique story angles;

• Manage deadlines and ensure that quality content is produced at all times;

• Verify facts cited in content before it is published;

• Approve final copy before it is published on web;

• Comply with media law and High level of integrity and ethical standards.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Must have at least a Bachelor's degree in journalism or Mass Communication;

• At least three years’ experience in copy editing and writing;

• Conceptual creativity when writing and the ability for story creation;

• Excellent communication and time management skills;

• Understands digital publishing;

• Able to work with a digital content management and publishing platform;

• Great attention to detail;

• Ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure;

• Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed;

• Understands how social media platforms work;

• Good leadership, project management and problem-solving skills.
