The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is looking for an experienced Project Coordinator to manage and drive Market Systems Development (MSD) initiatives in Ethiopia. This role will focus on developing partnerships with the private sector, overseeing the management of donor-funded projects, and expanding WHH’s MSD portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating project activities, managing budgets and contracts, and ensuring that the programme aligns with the organization’s strategic objectives. With a strong understanding of the Ethiopian private sector and inclusive market development approaches, the Project Coordinator will also play a key role in business development and securing resources for programme growth and sustainability.
Oversee all aspects of the assigned project, including technical inputs, budget and contract management, partner coordination, report production, and team management.
Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to project objectives and deliverables.
Manage project risks and identify mitigation strategies.
Analyze and monitor the market environment, identifying partnership opportunities with the private sector and other stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance and support to WHH program on market analysis, value chain development, and market-based interventions.
Conduct market assessments, identify key constraints and opportunities, and develop appropriate market development strategies.
Support the development and implementation of value chain interventions to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
Support relevant teams in developing procurement and partnership documents such as expressions of interest, scopes of work, and tender documents.
Lead efforts to represent the programme to private sector actors and other stakeholders, both current and potential.
Develop high-quality concept notes, expressions of interest, and proposals to expand WHH’s Market Systems Development (MSD) portfolio.
Contribute to the review and adaptation of programme strategies and activities to ensure sustainability and growth.
Participate in country-level business development activities to secure resources, influence stakeholders, and foster an enabling environment for success.
Support the development and implementation of WHH’s Ethiopia Country Strategic Plan for 2025–2028.
Bachelor’s degree in business management, economics, cooperative management, social enterprise, finance, agriculture, or a related field. At least 5 years of relevant experience in market development or business support, value chain analysis ideally in INGOs, consultancy, or the private sector.
Deep understanding of private sector development and inclusive market systems approaches, such as Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P).
Strong understanding of market dynamics, economic development principles, and poverty reduction strategies.
Experience in rural development, agricultural economics, community engagement, social impact assessment, and participatory methods.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
