The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the first professional associations in Ethiopia and was stablished on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members through a formal charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I. EMA is member of World Medical Association since 1994 G.C. 

EMA’s head office is based in Addis Ababa and has a presence in five regions represented by its 12 regional branch offices (Gonder, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Harare, Hawassa, D/Markos, Assosa, Wolkite and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 60 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ). The mission of the association is to: Ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and Ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice.

JOB SUMMARY

The Ethiopian medical Association (EMA) is a membership organization representing Medical Doctors registered to practice in Ethiopia, with a vision to see healthy and Prosperous Ethiopian community having access to quality health services, and mission to ensure the community gets quality health service EMA promotes the highest standards in Medical Education, Science and Art, and it ensures the rights and benefits of Medical doctors. 

Under the supervision of the Medical Excellence Activities and following the EMA policies and procedures, the Digital Learning Advisor is responsible for the development and implementation of digital learning strategies, providing guidance on best practices in online education. This role involves collaborating with educators, administrators, and technology teams to enhance the digital learning environment. He/she will also work with Higher Education and Continuing Education Development Centers to enhance digital learning and create a ground for online learning. Develop digital learning materials and ensure their utilization is also a main responsibility of the digital learning advisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Performance Area (KPI) 1: GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Digital Learning Advisor shall have the following duties and responsibilities under this KPI

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate the overall activities of digital learning components of the Medical Excellence Activities.

  • Prepare, submit for approval, and implement the approved annual plan of the Medical Excellence Digital Learning Activities. 

  • Prepare and submit for approval a budget of/for the digital learning activities of the Medical Excellence Activities 

  • Represent EMA before third parties.

  • Assess and identify the digital learning needs of faculty, medical schools and CPD providers.

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the digital Learning Activities in collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation officer of EMA

  • Closely work with medical school deans and CPD Providers to enhance their digital learning activities 

  • Ensure accurate and on time submission of all reports related with digital learning 

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of digital learning initiatives and recommend improvements.

Key Performance Area 2: Advise Digital Learning  

  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops on digital learning tools and methodologies.

  • Collaborate with instructional designers to create engaging online courses and materials.

  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for digital learning platforms.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in digital education.

  • Design and develop online courses and modules for healthcare professionals in digital health, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and instructional design principles.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and instructional designers to create engaging and interactive online learning experiences.

  • Work with medical schools in creating a dashboard to monitor curriculum implementation and evaluate accreditation status 

  • Incorporate multimedia elements, such as videos, interactive quizzes, and simulations, to enhance learner engagement and knowledge retention.

  • Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and authoring tools to develop and deliver online courses.

  • Adapt existing face-to-face CPD programs and courses into online formats, ensuring effective translation of content and learning objectives.

  • Modify instructional strategies, activities, and assessments to suit the online learning environment.

  • Coordinate and deliver digital CPD programs through various modalities, including virtual platforms, webinars, and online learning management systems.

  • Manage and maintain the organization's Learning Management System (LMS), including user management, course catalog management, and troubleshooting technical issues.

  • Monitor and analyze LMS usage data to identify trends, user engagement, and areas for improvement.

  • Design and develop digital tools and platforms to monitor and track healthcare professionals' CPD activities and progress.

  • Create online portfolios, dashboards, or tracking systems to document and showcase learners' CPD achievements and competencies.

  • Implement mechanisms for learners to record and reflect on their learning experiences, outcomes, and professional development goals.

  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to work on the Integrated Human Resource Information System (IHRIS) related to CPD to contribute data analysis, and ensure EMA accredited CPD centers trained, access and utilize IHRS

  • Contribute to data analysis, system updates, and reporting requirements within the IHRIS framework.

  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health (MoH)  to ensure EMA accredited CPD centers trained, accessed and utilized IHRIS

Key Performance area 3: Communication and Collaboration:

  • Facilitating effective communication, collaboration and interpersonal within EMA.

  • Interact with various stakeholders to foster strong relationships and promote a conducive work environment.

  • Regularly reports the performance of digital learning activities to the Medical Education Excellence Activities

  • Collaborates with key staffs of the association to ensure the smooth functioning of the digital learning under the medical education excellence activities 

  • a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the association.

  • Perform other duties assigned to him /her by the immediate supervisor

  POSITION INFORMATIO

Reports To: Medical Excellence Activity Project Manager

Duty Station: Addis Ababa with possibility of travel outside of Addis Ababa whenever the work demands.

Job Requirements

 Education and Qualification

  • First degree in health professions

  • Training on digital learning technology, e-learning, health information technology, computer science or related field.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in digital learning and related activities 

  • Strong understanding of Information and Technology principles

  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry in Ethiopia and experience working with government and non-government agencies and other partners

  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theories

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Ethiopian Medical Association.
