Humedicae.V is German based International NGO registered in Ethiopia in February 2010 and re-registered on July 8, 2019 with registry No. 1605 as foreign Charity. Currently, Humedica e.V, country office is looking for a qualified Safety and Security Advisor.

humedica e.V. is an international aid organization based in Kaufbeuren/Bavaria and employs around 70 people. Christian charity is our guiding principle. Since 1979, we have been providing rapid emergency and disaster relief, working in development cooperation and carrying out charitable projects. We are particularly committed to improving people’s health. One focus of our global commitment is on medical disaster relief.

The Role:

As a Global Safety and Security Advisor, you will join our International Programs and Cooperation (IPC) department, overseeing humedica’s security architecture in collaboration with the department head. You will work closely with Logistics, Finance, and Human Resources at our head office and directly support Safety and Security Management in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and other Countries as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual development of humedica’s global security architecture

  • Monitoring the humedica SSRM risk management system and its application.

  • Advising management, project and regional managers, country offices and partner organizations on security issues

  • Supervising security incidents and high-risk project areas to support and monitor project management

  • Designing and conducting briefings and training on travel and security

  • Perform monitoring and internal audits for compliance with security standards

  • Network with security stakeholders and participate in relevant networks

  • Develop and conduct staff training programs

  • Guiding the Crisis management team in relevant needs

  • Provide security services to humedica teams travelling abroad responding to disasters

  • Chairing the team of humedica Safety and Security Focal points and managers in various country offices in Lebanon, Ukraine and Afghanistan

  • Ensures good travel risk management together with other core functions including travel monitoring

  • Ensure robust travel risk management

  • Support the organization’s overall risk management

Salary:  Attractive, based on the organization scale

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Peace and security, Political science, Risk management, International relations, or related discipline.

  • 15 years of experience with postgraduate qualifications or equivalent

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in safety and security, with significant experience at senior levels in the international not-for-profit sector..

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in security management of worldwide projects.

  • Knowledge of NPO-specific security networks and standards.

  • At least 3 years in a responsible position in humanitarian projects.

  • At least 1 year of professional experience abroad and intercultural competence.

  • Significant leadership and risk management experience in a large, complex international NGO or organization.

  • Sound understanding of risk principles and modern safety and security risk management.

  • Experience managing risk and safety and security in field operations, including humanitarian assistance and development.

  • Ability to deliver cross-functional projects on time and on budget.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent planning, management, and coordination skills.

  • Experience in solving complex issues through analysis and ensuring buy-in.

  • Post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in safety and security, risk management, international development, or a related discipline.

  • Proficiency in English (C1 level) and basic knowledge of another foreign language (preferably French and/or Spanish).

  • Class 3 driver’s license.

  • Strong willingness to travel, including to high-risk areas.
