Job Description
‘Kelem International School (KIS) is a pre-KG to Grade 10 school that was originally established under the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1946. The school has been redefined as an independent not-for-profit school since July 1st, 2019.
We are currently seeking a Food and Beverage Manager for the current academic year 2024-25.
Our vision is to become a collaborative center of learning in Ethiopia, where each and every child becomes a confident and self-realized global citizen. Our mission is to facilitate the realization of every child’s full potential and develop resilient, curious, open-minded and reflective students who are able to express themselves fully and effectively.
We teach to enable our students to think critically, analyze and creatively solve problems to be adaptive in a rapidly changing world. Our school fosters in the minds of our students that learning is a life-long endeavor, setting the example by the continued professional development of our teachers and staff.
Our school aims to produce responsible and compassionate global citizens, with respect and recognition of the rich heritage of our host country, Ethiopia.
Currently the student-body of 200 represents 28 different nationalities. Kelem International School follows the Finnish curriculum blended with international standards for G1-10 and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for KG. We are a fully accredited international School by Cognia Global Commission.
Reports to: Finance & Operations Manager
Coordinates with: Admin Personnel, Principal, Vice Principal, Team Leaders, Teachers, HR Manager, Admissions Officer, Learning Support
Working Hours: Monday - Thursday (7:30 am - 4:30 pm) and Fridays (from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm).
Job Summary
The F & B Manager is a hospitality and culinary professional specialized in forecasting, planning and controlling the ordering of food and beverages for the school. Also manages the finances related to the whole purchasing process, produce reports, and to lead the Kitchen team by example.
Organize, direct and evaluate food and beverage service
Managing food and beverage operations within budget and to the highest standards
Design exceptional menus, purchase goods and continuously make necessary improvements
Participate in Recruitment and training of staff in respective Department
Shift scheduling
Performance management; monitor staff performance and provide feedback
Purchase and control of inventory
Monitor revenues and expenses
Ensure practice of health and safety regulations
Negotiate supplier arrangements for food and beverage products
Professional Development
Organize in-house & external staff development training and train staff on newly adopted practices.
Identify potential professional development opportunities that align to the Kitchen staff goals and needs offered locally or online.
Observation and Coaching
Provide a two way communication and nurture an ownership environment with emphasis in motivation and teamwork
Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
Mastery in delegating multiple tasks
Communication and leadership skills
Up to date with food and beverages trends and best practices
Ability to manage personnel and meet financial targets
Other duties
Support with the development and revision of policies and handbooks
Input into school policy making where appropriate
Attend school functions and meetings when required
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Education: BSc/MSc in culinary science and other related fields.
