Job Description

Purpose of the Job: 

The Plant Director shall provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Polypropylene Technology manufacturing plant. The Plant Director will be responsible for ensuring smooth business operations of the business unit. The Plant Director will oversee various sections within the business unit including production, maintenance, safety, quality control, and shall work closely with other functional units such as HR and Administration, Finance , Marketing and Import and Logistics . The role requires a dynamic leader who can drive continuous improvement and ensure the plant operates at maximum efficiency while aligning with corporate objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the entire Polypropylene manufacturing plant, ensuring the execution of business goals and production targets.

  • Develop and implement the plant's strategic direction and long-term goals in alignment with corporate objectives.

  • Foster a high-performance culture and ensure the plant's success through effective management of all departments (Production, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, and Supply Chain).

  • Ensure smooth and efficient plant operations while meeting production schedules and delivering high-quality products.

  • Drive initiatives for operational excellence, identifying opportunities for improvements in production processes, equipment, and resource utilization.

  • Maintain optimal plant capacity, productivity, and uptime by overseeing the effective maintenance of equipment and plant facilities.

  • Develop and maintain a culture of safety, continuously striving for zero incidents.

  • Ensure plant operations comply with the federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.

  • Oversee the quality control team to ensure that all products meet the required specifications and industry standards.

  • Address and resolve any non-compliance issues related to production, health, and safety regulations.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to department heads (Production and Technical, Quality, Warehouse etc.), ensuring effective execution of responsibilities.

  • Ensure effective labor relations, maintaining a positive work environment and resolving conflicts when necessary.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall plant efficiency.

  • Implement technological advancements and innovations that support production efficiency and sustainability.

  • Benchmark plant performance against industry standards and drive operational improvements.

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Education Qualification: Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or in other related disciplines. 

  • Work Experience: A minimum of 10 (ten) years of demonstrated work experience with at least 4 (four) years of demonstrated experience as Plant Manager/Director

  • While candidates with experience in the Polypropylene or textile sector are highly favored for the job, candidates well versed in manufacturing sectors are favored.

  • Solid interpersonal skills with capability of navigating through complex factory management.

  • Excellent people management. 

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Fluency in Amharic and English, written and verbal is highly required.
