Job Description
VIS has been operating in Ethiopia for more than 20 years. In 2005 it was recognized by the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice as a suitable organization to operate in the field of education and water and sanitation. On 8th October 2009 it also obtained the registration certificate from the Charities and Societies Authority in accordance with the Charities and Societies Proclamation No 621/2009. VIS and its partners have been engaged in humanitarian and development interventions in the areas of WASH, Livelihoods, Education and Technical and Vocational Training in all Tigray areas (particularly, Mekelle, Wukro, Adigrat, Adwa, Shire) and in the refugee camps of Adi-Harush, Mai-Ayni and Hitsats.
VIS Ethiopia is seeking a candidate for the position of Agricultural Field Officer. The Agricultural Field Officer will be working under the project: “SAFE-TIGRAY: Inclusive humanitarian initiative in favor of food security and the protection of the displaced population and host communities in conditions of greatest vulnerability in the Adwa woreda in Tigray”, which is funded by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS), and it is going to be implemented in Tigray Region in Ethiopia.
Overall objective:
to contribute to mitigate the effects of multiple shocks on the most vulnerable population, strengthening the link between humanitarian action, development and peace in the Tigray Region.
Specific objectives:
to improve food security of internally displaced people and the most vulnerable population of the host communities, with particular attention to the gender dimension and the inclusion of people with disabilities, in Tigray region.
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Agricoltural Expert and the VIS-Project Coordinator Tigray, the Agricultural Field Officer is responsible for the proper implementation of the project activities aimed at improving the food security of internally displaced people and the most vulnerable populations of the host communities in the project areas. He/she will ensure smooth operations of the project and consistency of project implementation with VIS rules and regulations
The Agricultural Field Officer will have the following responsibilities under the project:
Support the Agricultural Expert in managing the activities related to agriculture and rural livelihoods.
Beneficiaries mobilization and technical support in agriculture.
Support planning and scheduling of training activities.
Prepare and update learning materials.
Facilitate trainings on Sesame production, Good Agricultural Practices and Climate Smart Agriculture.
Ensure the compilation of attendance lists and project documentation when required.
Support monitoring activities by providing the Agricultural Expert with data and updated information from the field.
Support the agricultural inputs distribution
Continuous follow-up with farmers on training and agricultural activities
Fieled visits and provision of technical support to farmers and project beneficiaries
Any other activities that might be required
Duration: 10-12 months period
Salary Range: In birr 25,000.00-30,000.00 basic salary based on experience and qualification
Start Date: As soon as possible
Required qualification: TVET / Diploma, preferably in Agriculture or related fields;
Any other specialized qualifications: Possession of certificates attesting to participation in courses related to agriculture or related fields.
Degree of work experience in the area of professional expertise: at least 2 years in agricultural programs in humanitarian/development sector. Proven experience in working in a team environment and in training delivery in agriculture/livelihoods projects
Prior experience working in the Tigray Region, will be considered an added value.
Prior experience working with a local and/or international NGO and therefore related knowledge of good administration procedures will be a preference
Fluency in spoken and written Amharic and Tigrigna languages,besic knowledge of written and spoken english
INGO experience is an asset
