Job Description
The U.S. Mission in Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Administrative Assistant (GSO) in the GSO office.
Serves as the administrative assistant to the Supervisory General Services Officer, three Assistant General Services Officers, and back-up to the Management Counselor’s assistant;
Provides administrative and office management support assistance to the entire GSO office of 150 staff, including all six GSO sections.
Operates independently to ensure that administrative functions are performed effectively, efficiently, and in a manner that promotes harmony and problem-solving, ensuring other office staff members are more effective.
Ensures the smooth day-to-day operations of the GSO sections.
The Administrative Assistant serves as a primary contact for the individuals visiting the Management/General Services Office and needing information or assistance from any of the GSO sections and is responsible for making sure that information gets to customers on a timely basis and in a professional manner.
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
The selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period (4 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Education Requirements:
Two years of College/University studies are required.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in an office setting with a full range of Administrative
Assistant or Office Management/Secretary duties and responsibilities is required.
Language:
Fluent in speaking/reading/writing, which may include the ability to translate English. Fluent in speaking/reading/writing, which may include the ability to translate Amharic is required. (These may be tested)
Job Knowledge:
Knowledge and practice of professional office telephone courtesy and procedures, knowledge and experience in use of basic office equipment such as copy machines, fax machines, typewriters, computers; office filing procedures. Good knowledge of host nation customs and courtesies is required when speaking to, and arranging meetings with, mid and senior-level host nation Government Officials.
Skills And Abilities:
Must be able to work under pressure, work well on own initiative without constant supervision, take initiative in identifying and performing work to be done, be able to prioritize numerous tasks, and perform the most urgent first while keeping others informed if delays are inevitable. Good computer skills and knowledge are required. Must be able to type 40 words per minute. (These may be tested)
