JSI is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 30 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every regional state of Ethiopia. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality and equity in access of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health services, primary health care, including community health programs, digital health, health information systems, supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
Role Summary:
The Senior Knowledge Management and Learning Advisor is responsible for leading the development and implementation of effective knowledge management tools, processes, and strategies within the organization. This includes improving processes for compiling and disseminating program knowledge, advancing knowledge exchange mechanisms, and designing learning and knowledge management initiatives. The Advisor also oversees the proper storage and accessibility of key corporate and project documents, and coordinates with staff to build their knowledge sharing capabilities. The SeniorKnowledge Management and Learning Advisor will play a pivotal role in strengthening organizational learning frameworks and fostering a continuous learning culture. This position is responsible for ensuring that robust knowledge management and learning systems are established and maintained within JSI Ethiopia. The Advisor will lead the design, implementation, and coordination of Collaboration, Learning, and Adaptation (CLA) activities, both within the organization and with key external stakeholders. In this role, the Advisor will bring technical expertise to data collection, analysis, and the creation of engaging visualizations and learning materials. These resources will be used to support impactful learning events and workshops. Additionally, the Senior KM and Learning Advisor will spearhead special studies, facilitate pause-and-reflect sessions, conduct after-action reviews, and lead learning meetings with partners.
Leads the development of knowledge management tools.
Improves processes for program knowledge compilation and dissemination.
Advances knowledge exchange mechanisms within the organization.
Designs and implements learning and knowledge management strategies.
Identifies opportunities for automation and process improvements through the use of technological tools.
Designs and conducts training sessions on knowledge management best practices for project staff.Ensures proper storage of corporate/project documents (including assessments, proposals, agreements, reports, surveys, and evaluation)
Coordinates with and trains staff in developing and sharing knowledge
Centralizes internal knowledge by implementing a strategic information plan that documents and updates all of JSI Ethiopia’s publications, research, events, and technical engagements. Ensures this knowledge repository is accessible to staff at any time.
Collaborates with MEL departments to leverage gathered strategic information for evidence-based collaborative learning and adaptive approaches.
Advises the SMT on knowledge management, ensuring JSI Ethiopia maximizes key opportunities and maintains a unified external communication voice.
Coordinates learning activities to foster synergy in assessments, activities, and methodologies.
Enhances peer-to-peer learning, knowledge sharing and application, knowledge management, activity-based capacity strengthening, and data-driven support for adaptive management.
Ensures adequate budgeting and planning for knowledge management activities.
Leads the creation and presentation of relevant information to support evidence-based learning and decision-making.
Develops high-quality data visualizations, PowerPoint presentations, interactive dashboards, infographics, and other tools to make data more engaging and useful for decision-making and learning.
Supports the program team in creating high-quality reports, policy briefs, and technical documents.
Additional responsibilities as agreed upon with the Country Communications Dirctor (CCD).
A minimum of MA/MBA Degree in journalism, communications, organizational learning, knowledge management, social science, economics, Health studies or other relevant fields of study.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
Ability to develop and implement a communications strategy and to conceptualize, write, and edit technical contents.
Demonstrated ability to work with new technologies and social media platforms.
Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with project team members, donors, and other cooperating agencies.
Experience with DHIS2 and other data management tools is preferred. Design experience using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar systems is desired.
Experience working on USAID or similar internationally-funded programs preferred;
Ability to travel to various regions throughout Ethiopia.
