Employment Type: Definite Period

Salary: USD 830  (Eight hundred thirty) to be paid in ETB as per the month’s exchange rate of NBE

Role Purpose

The GESI will work under the supervision of Gender equality and protection Coordinator

  More specifically, s/he will:

  • Support project design, ensuring gender transformation and protection mainstreaming approaches are integrated and cross cutting.

  • Provide technical leadership to ensure concern Ethiopia organizational and project activities address gender equality and social inclusion considerations.

  • Ensure that gender and protection is integrated and mainstreamed across the project, including project design, implementation and monitoring, operations, as well as in staff training materials, policies and procedures.

  • Provide guidance on technical approaches and innovations that will at a minimum increase impact on women people with disabilities, elderly people, and other vulnerable groups. 

  • Provide guidance on the performance indicators to reflect progress towards gender equality and inclusion outcomes

  • Conduct gender and social inclusion assessment, reviews, and audits to assess ways to continually target involvement of women and youth, people with disabilities, elderly people, and other vulnerable groups.

  • Collaborate with gender equality and protection coordinator and human resource unit to provide strategic technical guidance on gender and protection integration at organizational and programme levels. 

  • Develop concern and partner staff skill in integrating GESI in across health & nutrition, education, Wash, livelihoods, Cash, and other concern Ethiopia   programme areas.

  • Design and facilitate gender and social inclusion trainings for concern and partner   staff, government stakeholders, and project clients to ensure that the project assesses and accounts for gender and social inclusion consideration.

  • Work closely with the monitoring, evaluation and learning team on data collection, analysis, and reporting on gender and social inclusion indicators.

  • Identify successful practices in the project that can be showcased in the publications, communication materials and conferences 

  • To conduct and document regular field visits to monitor progress, receive community feedback, and to check on the quality and impact of activities. 

  • To participate in assessments and to write weekly and monthly qualitative and quantitative reports a required.

  • To coordinate with the Logistics department on the procurement, transportation and distribution of materials and other inputs as required for the programme.

  • To uphold and promote Concern’s values, including our workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding values.

  • To participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s Emergency response as and when necessary.

Emergency Response

  • Concern is committed to responding to emergencies efficiently and effectively in order to help affected people meet their basic needs, alleviate suffering and maintain their dignity. To this end, when emergencies strike and the Ethiopia Programme is to respond, all staff are required to actively participate in the response, regardless of location and contribute to the efforts aimed at achieving the humanitarian objective of the organization.

  • Participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s Emergency response as and when necessary.

  • Comply with Concern’s health, safety and security guidelines during emergencies.

Accountability

In line with Concern’s commitments under the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS): 

  • actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E); 

  • Establish/strengthen the implementation of complaint response mechanism (CRM) at community level and ensure its functionality by closely working with the project team.

  • work with relevant colleagues  to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed; 

  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behavior is disseminated among programme participants and communities.

Safeguarding

  • Able to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that they have been understood.

  • Understands local safeguarding structures and arrangements.

  • Practices in a manner that seeks to reduce the risk of abuse, harm or neglect.

  • Identifies and refers to appropriate services any other associated persons including carers, family members and children at risk.

  • Able to document safeguarding concerns, and maintain appropriate record-keeping, recording the wishes and views of the adult or child at risk, differentiating between fact and opinion.

Job Requirements

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • Degree in  sociology, social work, psychology, gender and other related social science fields 

  • 3-4 years relevant experience in Non –governmental organization(NGO)

  • Proven and demonstrable experience of working in a similar role and context. 

  • Demonstrable communication skills, with good spoken and written English and local language(s).

  • Computer literacy in MS Office applications.

  • Good technical/programme knowledge in area of responsibility

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
