Job Description
Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Ethiopia started its operation in 1995 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors.
COOPI is currently implementing 10 projects in Ethiopia focusing on WASH, ESNFI, CCCM, Energy, Food security and Livelihood managing 7 field bases and a staff of over 100 employees.
COOPI is looking for qualified, skilled and motivated staff to carry out an internship in the WASH sector, in projects implementation sites. This position will be important to support the WASH department of COOPI.
Position: Internship in the WASH sector as field WASH supervisor
Number required: 1 (One)
Area Coordination Office: Projects implementation sites.
Planning
Prepare monthly plan with the support of the field WASH supervisor/WASH Coordinator/Advisor and the PM;
Support the WASH field supervisor in planning the WASH activities;
Prepare the weekly plan of the activities;
Compile weekly mission orders and submit them to the WASH team and the PM.
Support the WASH team in drafting new project proposals, especially in the selection of the interventions;
Support the WASH supervisor to prepare workplans and accomplishement of the works;
Participate and contribute to weekly project meetings;
Support in the preparation of drafts of ToR activities (background, methodology, objectives, results, activities, BoQ, Monitoring and post monitoring table linked to result framework including cash, materials, transport) and send it to the WASH field supervisor, with the support and supervision of the WASH Coordinator/Advisor.
Implementation
Be able to conduct a topographic survey;
Be able to read the technical drawings provided by the coordination office;
Be able to explain to the masons what they have to do, going into detail;
Be able to locate the structures and pipelines according to the positions given in the drawings or maps;
Have some knowledge related to the foundation soils;
Have some knowledge about WASH activities like wells development, hydraulics simulation, masonry works, how to prepare different concrete mixes, how to conduct a topographic survey, discharge measurements, construction of latrines, construction of control boxes, construction of water tanks…
Knowledge about the international and local standards to be the reference for executing the works.
Support the WASH supervisor in the implementation of project activities in the field.
Knowledge of the country’s geology;Support the Coordination office in Addis Abeba with the preparation of technical BoQs.
Support the implementation of baseline, intermediate monitoring, post-monitoring, end-of-project surveys and all data collection required to implement activities, reporting results and targets as requested by the PM and ToRs (with Kobo when possible).
Make proper use and take care of COOPI properties under one’s control.
Work closely with the WASH team in the implementation of activities.
Supervise the work of masons/plumbers during the construction of WASH works (water systems, elevated cisterns, latrines…).
Actively participating to weekly/bi-weekly meeting called by the PM following the Agile system.
Preparation of weekly and monthly reports to share with the WASH Coordinator/Advisor, WASH supervisors and PM.
Support to draft/inform the WASH supervisors and PM on activities accomplishment, including implementation data as requested (interim, final, ad hoc, etc).
Attend coordination meetings with communities at Kebele and Woredas level requested by the PM and share key points (no decision level is granted in stakeholders coordination meetings).
Support the organization of internal and donors visits to the project sites liaising with the PM.
Reporting
Actively participating to weekly/bi-weekly meeting called by the PM following the Agile system.
Preparation of weekly and monthly reports to share with the WASH Coordinator/Advisor, WASH supervisors and PM.
Support to draft/inform the WASH supervisors and PM on activities accomplishment, including implementation data as requested (interim, final, ad hoc, etc).
External Coordination
Attend coordination meetings with communities at Kebele and Woredas level requested by the PM and share key points (no decision level is granted in stakeholders coordination meetings).
Support the organization of internal and donors visits to the project sites liaising with the PM.
Project development
Support the regular collection of information at stakeholders level (Zone, Woredas and Kebele, community, local partners, NGOs, etc.) for baseline/outline surveys andneed assessments.
Propose activities and project ideas and share them to the field WASH supervisors and PM.
Perform any other duties assigned by the field WASH supervisor/WASH Coordinator/Advisor.
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geology and Geotechnics.
Fluence in English.
Computer literacy, with excellent knowledge of the Office package and the candidate should have enough knowledge in the use of a software programs such as GIS, Copernicus Sentinel, AutoCAD, SketchUp (or any design software) …
Proven capacity to work in a team is essential.
Preferred:
Good knowledge in construction of WASH works (towers, tanks, control boxes, water points, latrines) and draft of BoQs;
Knowledge of SPHERE Standards;
Good knowledge of geology and soil properties;
Good knowledge of fittings and pipes and how to install them correctly;
Demonstrated ability to work in stressful environments and under pressure;
Knowledge of local language and area of operation is a plus.

Duration of the contract: Six months with possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and fund availability.
