Job Description

The Deputy Executive Directress/or is the second-in-command and works closely with the Executive Directress to provide strategic and operational leadership for EWLA. The Deputy Executive Directress is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the organization, supporting the Executive Directress/or in implementing the strategic plan, and ensuring the effective coordination and performance of the various departments, units and regional level branch offices. The Deputy Executive Directress/or acts on behalf of the Executive Directress in her absence and represents the organization externally as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans with the Executive Directress and other senior management team in developing and implementing the strategic vision and plans for EWLA,

  • Oversee the coordination and performance of the various departments, including the Senior Management Team.

  • Monitor organizational operations, identify issues and bottlenecks, and propose solutions to the Executive Directress.

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among the different units and departments.

  • Represent EWLA in meetings, events, and negotiations on her own and as delegated by the Executive Directress.

  • Provide guidance and support to the Executive Secretary and IT Experts in their respective duties.

  • Assist the Executive Directress in reporting to the Board of Directors on the organization’s progress and performance.

  • Deputize for the Executive Directress in her absence and act on her behalf as required, and,

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive organizational culture.

Job Requirement

  • Position Requirements

    • Academic Qualification: Advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in LAW

    • Work Experience: Minimum of 6 years for Masters and 3 years for PhD of strategic leadership experience in civil society organizations or public sector , specifically working on promoting gender equality, women empowerment, mitigating gender based violence, legal aid provision, policy advocacy, development, or public sector; proven track record in strategic planning, program management, fundraising, and organizational management, and experience working with boards of directors and multi-stakeholder partnerships.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English language, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders,

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make evidence based decisions,

    • Demonstrated commitment to EWLA’s mission and values,

    • Demonstrated passion and track record for the promotion of gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights protection,

    • Ability to think strategically, anticipate challenges, and lead the organization through change

    • Flexible and adaptable, with a high tolerance for ambiguity and manage conflicting opinions, schedules and workloads as well

    • Integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to transparency
