The Project

Within the GIZ Program Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition”, sequa implements the “SME Support Scheme targeting growth-orientated SMEs” project in Ethiopia. With this, sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Ethiopian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided on women-owned SMEs, job creation, and employability training for women.

Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence/business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). A particular focus will be on advisory services to improve access to finance. The support scheme will contribute to SMEs’ change management and business growth.

sequa has selected S and Y Electric Manufacturing PLC through vetting process. S and Y is a medium-sized private company based in Mekelle, Tigrai. It focuses on producing extension cables, control switchboards, and low-level electrical devices and supplies corporate and individual customers.

The company is equipped with production facilities to produce different varieties of products. The company is planning to improve its product quality through technical consultancy.

The assignment’s main objective is to improve the integration and optimization of electrical and mechanical systems of machines and equipments.

Tasks / Responsibilities

•  Conduct a gap assessment of the existing electromechanical system of the company’s operation and products and assess the interaction of electrical and mechanical systems of machines,

•  Prepare an intervention plan based on the findings of the gap assessment,

• Prepare training materials and deliver training on fundamentals of electromechanical systems and their integration in machinery design and operation,

•  Deliver training in three main areas: 1) on installation, upgrading and testing of electronic and computer-controlled mechanical systems, 2) on Electrical Wiring and Control Systems, Mechani-cal Components and Assemblies, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems, and 3) on instrumentation principles and measurement techniques for monitoring and optimising machinery performance,

• Deliver training on automotive technology and auto electric technology,

•  Improve the design, quality and performance of the electromechanical parts of machines,

• Develop quality parameters and standard specifications for electromechanical products,

•  Assist the company in complying with industry standards by adhering to safety standards and reg-ulations in electromechanical systems, ensuring compliance and workplace safety.

Job Requirement

Your Qualification / Skills

• Min. Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field,

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for designing electromechanical components and systems,

• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and mechanical principles,

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Your Working Experience

• Proven experience in electromechanical system design and development, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience,

•  Proven working experience in the electrical/electromechanical industry,

• Experience in similar projects.
