FHI 360’s Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Northern Ethiopia through an integrated health, nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population. FHI 360 aims to expand its reach to the Somali Region in Eastern Ethiopia to meet the immediate needs of the drought-affected population and will be implementing integrated humanitarian programming with the Ethiopia-based national organization, Pastoralist Concern (PC).

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the health and nutrition Officer, the Health and Nutrition Assistant is responsible for supporting all start-up nutrition activities in FHI 360 program implementation areas. They will be responsible for providing technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards and guidelines are technically sound. They will ensure strengthened nutrition services including but not limited to counseling, linkage, and preparing treatment for the clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implement the standard IMNCI /BEmONC CMAM protocol nutritional protocol and medical protocols at SC/OTP/ health facilities.

  • Accomplishing health and nutrition project activities with other projects for synergetic result

  • In charge of PHC and OTP/ SC and IYCF quality program implementation and weekly OTP activity

  • Organizes training for IMNCI /RH and OTP /IYCF and gives technical support to HEW.

  • Monitors the RUTF and drug status for OTP/SC

  • S/He also supports the SFP programs.

  • Participate in capacity-building training in health education sessions and ENA/BCC application.

  • Responsible for the outreach work and follow-up of community volunteers.

  • Responsible for follow-up and report of cases referred by Community volunteers.

  • Supervises the organization's sanitation technical quality and availability of supplies in SC/OTP/SFP.

  • Supports the compilation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.

  • Responsible in mentoring and supporting of HEW.

  • Support HEW in recording and reporting of PHC and OTP programs.

  • Supports the program integration with partners and MoH through on job training and supervision.

  • Any other tasks assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency with database management software and online search tools is required.

  • Development of scope of work and deliverables for partners consultants etc.

  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political contextual and ethical issues in assigned areas.

  • Articulate professional and able to communicate in a clear positive manner with clients and staff.

  • Basic working knowledge of concepts practices and procedures with providing technical support for technical research studies.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data identify errors and prepare reports.

  • Ability to solve problems and implement corrective action as needed.

  • Must be able to read write and speak fluent English.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments or projects.

  • Reports to Senior Health and Nutrition Officer.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing /Public health or Related Field.

Experience:

  • Zero (0) to 2 years of field experience in humanitarian work including significant experience in managing integrated projects.

  • Knowledge of the latest Nutrition-related technical guidelines and standards in emergency nutrition and health.

  • NGO Experience in IMNCI/RH CMAM/OTP/SC and IYCF included Community engagement program.

  • Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.

  • Willingness and ability to work in a hardship environment.

  • Cultural and gender sensitivity

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to spend long hours at field activities, especially at health service institutions and.

  • Ability to walk to visit selected sites and households to conduct health and nutrition-related activities.

  • Ability to participate in zonal-level cluster meetings
