Job Description
Ethiopia Public Health Institute is responsible for HIV viral load testing, TB culture and EID for different facilities throughout the country. These experts will be responsible for managing VL/EID and TB culture specimens received from various health facilities, ensuring proper registration and distribution to all national reference laboratories. They also collect specimen from patient referred to national reference laboratories for the above test.

Duration of contract: 6 months with possibility of extension
Place: Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Addis Ababa.
Collect blood and other biological samples using aseptic techniques.
Label and store specimens appropriately to avoid contamination or degradation.
Maintain detailed records of patient samples and test procedures.
Perform routine and specialized tests on patient samples (blood, urine, tissues, etc.).
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of test results to physicians.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy.
Perform routine quality control checks and troubleshooting on equipment.
Report malfunctions and coordinate repairs or replacements.
Adhere to biosafety and biosecurity guidelines to protect themselves and others.
Analyse test results and provide accurate data for medical decision-making.
Maintain comprehensive and confidential records of patient information.
Use laboratory information systems (LIS) for test documentation and reporting.
Train junior lab staff, in laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
Oversee lab operations and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Monitor and manage laboratory supplies and inventory.
Ensure proper storage and ordering of reagents, chemicals, and consumables.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Conduct other activities as assigned by immediate supervisor
BSc degree in medical laboratory technology with minimum of 6 years of experiences working in a clinical setting.
Certificate of Basic computer skills.
Required skills and attributes
Great knowledge, skill and operation of laboratory analysis.
Cable to efficiently operate automated laboratory analyzers, PCR instrument, and different ELISA instrument.
Willing to work outside the working hour to support smooth operations.
Experience in providing technical guidance and support to other staffs
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and ability to address complex issues and concepts clearly, and concisely.
Effective time management skills, Ability to work with a team and independently when required
Excellent computer literacy such as Microsoft Office, internet and email
