Job Description

The Manager of the Financial Strategy Division is responsible for developing and executing strategic financial initiatives that ensure Ahadu Bank's sustained growth and financial stability. This role leads financial planning and analysis activities, including forecasting market trends, budgeting, and performance evaluation. The manager analyzes complex financial data to generate actionable insights and guides the financial strategy team in identifying key opportunities and challenges within Ethiopia's evolving financial landscape and emerging capital market. Through the preparation of comprehensive reports, feasibility studies, and strategic recommendations, the manager plays a critical role in supporting informed decision-making, optimizing resource allocation, and aligning financial strategies with the bank’s broader objectives.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Financial Analysis and Strategic Planning:

    • Lead the development and alignment of the bank’s financial strategy with enterprise objectives and long-term goals.

    • Formulate financial objectives that drive growth, profitability, and market competitiveness, while conducting market research and analysis to identify opportunities and threats.

    • Monitor and analyze Ethiopia's financial and economic landscape, preparing periodic reports that summarize key trends, opportunities, and challenges.

    • Identify and utilize relevant macroeconomic and microeconomic indicators to inform the bank’s financial strategy.

  2. Strategic Financial Performance Monitoring:

    • Oversee the bank's financial performance, ensuring consistent monitoring of key metrics such as profitability, liquidity, and capital adequacy.

    • Prepare and present high-level financial reports and strategic recommendations to the CMESO and executive team, reflecting current economic conditions, regulatory changes, and market trends.

    • Support decision-making through data-driven insights and recommendations.

  3. Risk Management & Compliance:

    • Identify and assess financial risks related to market conditions, regulatory changes, and operational inefficiencies, recommending and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.

    • Collaborate with the Risk and Compliance Division to ensure financial strategies comply with regulatory requirements and risk management frameworks.

    • Implement risk-based performance tools to maintain financial sustainability and stay updated on regulatory changes to assess their impact on the bank's financial performance and strategy.

  4. Capital Market & Investment:

    • Drive the capital allocation strategy, ensuring optimal resource utilization across business units.

    • Develop and evaluate investment proposals in collaboration with the Strategy and Research Directorate, recommending alignment with the bank’s strategic financial goals.

    • Conduct feasibility assessments for new products, services, or market expansions, while analyzing Ethiopia’s capital markets for investment opportunities and challenges.

    • Propose strategies for effective market participation and analyze the current investment portfolio to identify areas for divestment or restructuring, preparing reports on performance, risks, and returns in collaboration with senior leadership.

  5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

    • Collaborate with business units to integrate financial strategies with operational plans

    • Build relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, investors, and financial institutions.

    • Support strategic marketing campaigns and ensure alignment of financial strategies with market realities.

  6. Leadership and Team Development:

    • Lead and manage the Financial Strategy team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

    • Provide mentorship and development opportunities for team members to enhance their professional skills and contribute to the bank’s financial objectives.

    • Ensure compliance with the bank’s values, policies, and ethical standards.

  7. Generic Duties of the Position

  8. Reporting:

    • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on financial performance, strategy execution, and risk assessments to the CMESO.

    • Ensure that reports are accurate, timely, and provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making.

    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

  9. Budget Management:

    • Develop and oversee the division’s annual budget, ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and aligned with strategic objectives.

    • Monitor budget utilization and ensure adherence to financial controls and cost-saving measures.

  10. Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the Financial Strategy Division, encouraging innovation and the use of advanced financial tools and technologies.

  • Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in financial strategy, incorporating them into the bank’s strategic approach.

Job Requirements

Education requirements     

Masters degree  in Economics/ Accounting & Finance, Business Administration or related filed of studies    

Experience

A minimum of nine years’ professional experience in Economic and Market research areas preferably in the bank industry of which  two years as Principal Officer/Team Leader or four years as Senior Officer.
