MSF Holland is looking for:  Social Media Officer

  • Number of Positions:  One 

  • Place of work:    Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 

  • Terms of employment:  one Year with the possibility of extension

  • Activity Rate:   100%

  • Remuneration and Benefits:

    • Starting gross salary/month: 52,100.00 ETB

    • Transportation allowance:2,200.00 ETB

    • Medical Coverage: as per organizational scale

Main Purpose

  • Contributing to the implementation of operational communication strategy in the mission according to MSF standards. Aiming at building MSF visibility, acceptance and leverage inside the country. Focusing on Social Media. 

Accountabilities

  • Producing, editing, and curating content for publishing on MSF social media accounts, with support provided for translation where needed. Suggesting innovations for content creation and increasing MSF's social media audiences (Facebook Live coverage with MSF senior field staff, etc.)

  • Helping MSF to build its social media audience through

    • Promoting MSF social media profiles externally 

    • Encouraging staff to use social media guidelines

    • Providing support for training on social media

  • Monitoring and analyzing online topics and trending subjects which are relevant to MSF operations.

  • Monitoring for mentions of MSF on social media and reporting to supervisors on problematic MSF mentions on social media.

  • Monitoring back-end analytics and evaluating engagement of followers by geographic location, demographics, etc… Contributing to the development of MSF social media strategy by providing contextual advice related to social media use and trends in the country

  • Undertaking daily work in line with the broader communications and operational goals of MSF and replying to comments and engagements, as appropriate, with guidance from supervisors. 

  • Participating in communication data collection and reporting as required.

MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities;

  • Creating and managing MSF Ethiopia social media channels, while ensuring security of the accounts in compliance with MSF social media security guidelines.

  • Developing a content calendar for consistent production and dissemination of content across social media platforms.

  • Providing contextual advice and support in the development and implementation of MSF’s social media strategy in Ethiopia, aligned with regional and international issues relevant to MSF.

  • Tracking performance metrics using social media management tools, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and analyzing the impact of campaigns or strategies.

  • Working collaboratively with MSF’s communications team in Ethiopia and regional offices (e.g., Nairobi) to align on strategies and share resources.

  • Providing support during crises or emergencies by monitoring social media channels and ensuring prompt and appropriate responses, with real-time updates.

  • Building a network of "social media ambassadors" from MSF projects to amplify organizational messages and provide regular content from the field.

  • The post holder will work closely with the Field Communications Officer

  • When needed the post holder will also be required to cover for the Field Communications Officer

  • Collaborating with East Africa office teams (EA) and work closely with digital teams at HQ to develop initiatives and ideas for digital campaigns and projects.

  • Providing timely digital support and intervention in managing and addressing instances of digital misinformation or disinformation.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • University or College Degree or Certificate in a relevant field.

  • Candidates without a University or College education may be considered if they possess significant additional experience (5-plus years) in social media management, monitoring, and content production. 

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in social media management and community building

  •  Experience in basic social media content production and messaging

  •  Experience in social media monitoring and reporting.

Languages

  • Essential: Proficiency in mission language(s) essential (mostly English, Amharic, or others). 

  • Desirable: Excellent command of local languages in the mission country.

Knowledge

  • Desirable: Excellent writing skills Thorough knowledge of traditional media and a good understanding of social media

    •  Good networking and media relations skills Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and Internet).
