The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.

Data Science and Administration Division is one of the departments in the institute and is responsible for overseeing data administration, cleaning, and analysis, as well as designing research methodologies and providing support to AHRI researchers and postgraduate students. Therefore, the Data Science and Administration Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative and energetic Junior Researchers (Data Analyst) to join our diverse team. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:                 

• Compile data from various sources, ensuring data accuracy and completeness 

• Perform data cleaning and transformation as necessary to prepare it for analysis

• Assist in conducting data analysis using statistical methods, data visualization tools, and data analysis software

• Generate, summarize and provide concise reports

• Create visually appealing and informative charts, graphs, and dashboards to present data insights 

• Help maintain data quality standards by identifying and resolving data discrepancies or inconsistencies

• Collaborate with other team members and work closely with cross functional teams and stakeholders

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data analysis and expand your knowledge and skills in data analytics techniques and tools.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competences

• BSc degree in Data Science, Information Science, Computer Science or Software Engineering 

• Strong programming skills in Python, R,  SQL or other relevant languages

• Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus

• Excellent communication skills

• Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining data accuracy and integrity

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically

• Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively

• Team player with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work well in a diverse team environment

• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools, techniques, and technologies in the field of data analysis

Duty station: Addis Ababa AHRI Head Office

Number required for each position: 1 (One)

Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability

Salary: As per the institute salary scale
