Job Description

The SPIR II Health and Nutrition coordinator will work closely with the Health and Nutrition (H&N) Technical Advisor, H&N Specialist, and Social Behavior Change 
Communication (SBCC) Specialist and provide supportive supervision and mentorship to the Tigray MHPSS Officer (TMHPSSO) to conduct effective H&N project management implementation in SPIR II operational areas, Tigray region. S/he will support TMHPSSO during scheduled field visits and conduct capacity building for field staff in close collaboration with the H&N Specialists. The H&N Coordinator will establish close relationships with H&N Specialists, PSNP institutions, and participants. S/he will ensure that  all activities related to HEALTH AND NUTRITIONs are coordinated and harmonized across all SPIRII operational areas.

Job Purpose

S/he will ensure that all activities related to HEALTH AND NUTRITIONs are coordinated and harmonized across all SPIRII operational areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Provide Technical support for

(Frontline workers to deliver effective Health & Nutrition program)

  • Provide technical support and technical guidance for the Overall health and Nutrition program in Tigray  

  • Conduct capacity-building activities, which include the review of training materials and models for health and nutrition programs.

  • Support MHPSS officers in training government experts and SPIR-II staff on NCG and CPNP approaches and provide on-the-job training to maintain skills.

  • Support integration of key relevant components across SPIR II technical programs  

  • Support and collaborate with implementers of SPIR-II, other NGOs, UN agencies, and government partners to share ideas, knowledge, and implementation experiences.

  • Align H&N DIP   with respective WV Tigray priority priorities.

  • Provide technical support for implementing digital apps for various H&N program components.

Progress Monitoring and quality assurance

  • Support the adoption and development of quality assurance monitoring processes and tools to identify areas for improvement, providing targeted technical support for the H&N Project Model.

  • Conduct QIVC bi-annually for each MHPSS officer during NCG monthly meetings with promoters, providing constructive feedback for improvement.

  • Conduct supportive supervision quarterly for sample LFs and HEWs when they conduct NCG &CPNP sessions and provide them with constructive feedback for improvement.

  • To ensure the quality of home visits, monthly sample home visits will be performed in the operational area of the SPIR-II Implementing partner.

  • Provide support to SPIR II Learning partner, IFPRI, and other local researchers in key impact studies related to the purpose -1 project model.

  • Monitor the progress of the project model activities at the field level and offer ongoing feedback and recommendations.

  • Collect and report information such as the number of Neighbor Caregivers registered, meeting attendance, the number of women screened, and vital events (pregnancy, birth, death, etc.).

  • Ensure the quality of record-keeping and documentation, report to the supervisor, and use the information to improve quality and support the WFSTF decision-making.

  • Work closely with the MEL team, identify and track key performance indicators and areas of improvement, and share with a respective manager or technical team for targeted action.

  • Support the review, synthesis, and write-up of H&N project model intervention results for quarterly and annual reports.

Strengthen partnership, collaboration, and working relationships.

  • Actively participate in and represent SPIR at regional and zonal-level forums, such as the regional review meetings, to share learning and challenges related to the health and nutrition Program.

Knowledge management, learning dissemination, and report preparation

  • Identify cases and capture and document the process to support the production of success stories, lessons learned, and best practices documentation.

  • Provide accurate data on H&N Project Model interventions for quarterly and annual reports to support their drafting.

  • Actively work on digital apps for different H&N interventions and document learnings

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of working experience in Health and Nutrition programs in a rural development context, three years of which were at a coordinator/supervisory level or equivalent position.

  • Demonstrated technical leader in Ethiopia’s health and nutrition field with an established reputation for contributions in relevant forums, networks, and among USAID and its partners.

  • Experience in assisting field research and experience working closely with research institutions.

  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and coordination skills.

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • BSC in Public Health/Nutrition with 5-7 years of experience in a rural setting.

  • Master’s degree in public health/ nutrition with field experience in a supervision coordinator position for 2-3 years of experience.

Desired

  • NGO experience

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of community-based health interventions, including the Care Group Model, structured food demonstration, and dialogue-based counseling techniques to address nutrition during the first 1000 days, is strongly preferred.

  •  Excellent report writing skills

  • Ability to communicate and write clearly in English and the local language of the operation area (Tigrigna) is mandatory

Travel and Work Environment Requirement: Work at regional level with frequent travel to field

Language Requirements: Fluent in English and Local Language (Tigrigna)
