Associate Researcher I_ Biostatistician
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.
The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD) Research Division is one of the departments in the institute and currently MNTD’s Malaria Research Unit runs different research projects on malaria in collaborations with national and international partners and funders. Therefore, the MNTD Division is looking for a self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic Associate Researcher I- Biostatistician to join our diverse team.
Analyze data using statistical methods such as longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, mixed-effect modeling, logistic regression, and other model-building techniques.
Stay current with methodological or conceptual advancements in biomedical research by reviewing literature, attending conferences, and consulting with colleagues.
Prepare statistical data for inclusion in reports to relevant bodies.
Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams, including epidemiologists, biologists, and public health experts.
Write and publish scientific articles or present findings at national and international conferences.
Assisting the PIs in preparing draft manuscripts and following up the process of publishing in scientific journals
Design project plans, timelines, technical objectives, and select appropriate study methodologies for biomedical research studies.
Prepare detailed analysis plans and write descriptions of analyses and findings for research protocols or reports.
Monitor clinical trials or experiments to ensure adherence to protocols and data quality.
Collaborate with professionals to design epidemiological research studies.
Review state-of-the-art medical research protocols and recommend appropriate statistical analyses.
Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
Share knowledge and train other team members in statistical methods and data management practices.
Write and publish scientific manuscripts and technical reports in reputable journals.
Perform other duties of the PIs as required
Required Qualifications
MSc in Biostatistics, Public Health Epidemiology, or related field with 5+ years of work experience.
Strong understanding of epidemiological study design.
Proficiency in statistical software R, Python, or Stata.
Strong programming skills in languages like Python or R.
Experience in discussing biostatistical issues with clinical/health personnel
Publications are required and need to be listed in the resume/CVs
Required Skills and Experience
Technical skills to apply methodologies from biomedical research literature.
Ability to work with multiple epidemiological data systems and teams.
Experience collaborating with research institutes, academia, and the health sector.
Proven ability to produce policy-relevant findings from systematic reviews and analyses.
Ability to assess the quality of evidence for health policy decisions.
At least 6 public health-related articles published in reputable peer-reviewed journals, with at least three as first author.
Advanced programming skills in R, STATA, Python, etc.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Salary: ETB 21,273.00 (Twenty One Thousand Two Hundred Seventy Three Birr)
Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
