1.1 General Information

New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The organization was previously registered at the Ministry of Justice under registration number 3018 and later registered and licensed by the Federal Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian resident’s charity by the Charities and Societal Proclamation No. 621/2009 by registration No. 0539. NMWEO has been re-registered according to the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 113/2019 with registration No. 0539.

Position Overview

New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO) is seeking 3 dedicated and compassionate Social Workers for Child Protection to implement child protection programs in contested areas of Ethiopia. Each social worker will be responsible for managing child protection activities across two target woredas, providing social support, addressing child protection concerns, and ensuring the safety and well-being of children affected by conflict and displacement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work across multiple target woredas to implement child protection activities, including identifying and addressing child protection risks and vulnerabilities.

  • Provide direct social support and case management services to children and families affected by conflict, including those at risk of abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

  • Monitor and respond to child protection concerns, including child labor, recruitment, and separation from families.

  • Collaborate with local authorities, schools, community leaders, and other stakeholders to establish protective environments for children.

  • Facilitate access to child-friendly services such as education, health, and psychosocial support.

  • Raise awareness on child protection issues in the community and build the capacity of local partners to respond to child protection concerns.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed case files, reports, and documentation in line with child protection standards and NMWEO’s guidelines.

  • Advocate for children’s rights and contribute to the development of child protection strategies in the program areas.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in child protection, social work, or community-based services, preferably in emergency or conflict-affected settings.

  • Knowledge of international child protection frameworks and best practices (e.g., UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Sphere standards).

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and case management skills.

  • Ability to work with vulnerable children and families in a sensitive and empathetic manner.

  • Proficiency in Amharic, Tigrigna, and English is required.
