About Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI)
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 as a biomedical research institute through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). Later, AHRI is restructured as one of the federal agents under the Ministry of Health and for expanded its research program and conducted numbers of clinical and diagnostic intervention to fight against emerging diseases and halting the possible transmission of infectious diseases in Ethiopia and the region.
About Clinical trial directorate (CTD)
Since its first initiation of GCP compliant clinical trial in 2001, the Clinical Trial Directorate (CTD) conducts various drugs, vaccines, and devices trials; as well as Bioequivalence and pharmacovigilance studies. In addition to clinical trial facilities, CTD and acquired experiences in setting up collaborating satellite trial sites in several health care facilities in Addis Ababa and beyond.
Together with the study physician conduct and lead recruitment of study Participants.
Assist the study physician in the screening of study participants and obtain participants’ informed Consents.
Conduct and coordinate clinical procedures required in a study protocol.
Protect and care the study participants and ensures their retention in the study
Maintain an inventory of all medical equipment, ensuring calibration and servicing schedules are adhered to.
Oversee maintenance schedules for critical equipment like ECG, Monitor and freezers etc. and analytical instruments.
Implement and monitor safety protocols, including fire safety, chemical handling, and waste disposal procedures.
Conduct regular safety drills and train staff on emergency response procedures.
Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.
Coordinate procurement, installation, and validation of new equipment.
Monitor the lifecycle of equipment and recommend replacements when necessary
Maintain accurate records related to facility operations, including maintenance logs, validation reports, and incident records.
Prepare and present reports during audits and inspections.
Collaborate with clinical, analytical, and quality assurance teams to ensure the facility meets their operational needs.
Ensuring that the infrastructure, equipment, and overall environment of the center meet regulatory, operational, and scientific requirements.
Manage and address facility-related issues that may impact study timelines or quality.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the principal investigator and/or the director.
Required Qualification and Experiences
EDUCATION: B.Sc. in clinical nursing
Certificate trainings:
Registered professional nurse
Training in GCP and/or research ethics is an advantage
Training in Emergency Management is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum four years of experience in clinical nursing practice
Demonstrated experience in clinical research and clinical data collection as research nurse is an advantage.
Applicant current position and salary should be equal to the vacant position (Rank XIV)
Other Competencies:
Knowledge of medical and scientific terminologies and strong interpersonal communication skills.
ECG, phlebotomy and any other clinical/technical skills are advantages
Ward/ facility management
Computer Competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
High personal motivation and willingness to work occasional night and weekend schedules.
