Job Description

About the Role: 

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Project Manager to oversee the establishment of a state-of-the-art Addis Genetic Testing Center (AGTC) in Ethiopia. The center will offer critical genetic testing services, including paternal testing, sibling testing, and forensic DNA analysis. The Project Manager will lead efforts in procurement, regulatory compliance, and facility setup while ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders to deliver the project on time and within budget. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Project Planning and Execution: 

  • Develop a detailed project roadmap, including schedules, milestones, and budgets, to guide the establishment of the genetic testing center. 

  • Monitor and evaluate project progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies. 

Procurement Management: 

  • Oversee procurement of advanced biological instrumentation and laboratory equipment from international suppliers. 

  • Coordinate logistics, including shipping, customs clearance, and local delivery. 

Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Liaise with Ethiopian regulatory bodies to obtain all required licenses and permits for the genetic testing facility. 

  • Ensure the facility meets local and international standards for laboratory operations. 

Stakeholder Coordination: 

  • Serve as the main point of contact between internal teams, external vendors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders. 

  • Maintain transparent communication to align all parties on project goals and timelines. 

Facility Setup: 

  • Work with architects, contractors, and technical teams to ensure proper installation and calibration of laboratory instruments. 

  • Collaborate with scientific experts to develop operational protocols and workflows for testing services. 

Team Leadership: 

  • Support recruitment and onboarding of the center’s technical and administrative staff. 

  • Lead and inspire the project team, fostering collaboration and accountability. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields (MSc preferred). 

  • 5+ years of project management experience in healthcare, laboratory, or biotechnology sectors. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in procurement and supply chain management, especially international sourcing. 

  • Familiarity with Ethiopian regulatory and licensing processes for healthcare or laboratory facilities. 

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in MBA or Project Management or a related discipline. 

  • Strong academic background, with a BSc/MSc in Natural Sciences (Biology preferred). 

  • Proven experience in establishing or managing healthcare or laboratory facilities. 

  • Knowledge of advanced biological instrumentation and laboratory systems. 

  • Proficiency in Amharic is highly advantageous.
