Project: Addis Genetic Testing Center Establishment
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Type: Fixed contract
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Setup Specialist to lead the design and oversee the physical setup of the Addis Genetic Testing Center (AGTC) in Ethiopia. The role includes planning, coordinating, and supervising the installation of laboratory infrastructure, advanced instrumentation, and critical systems. This individual will ensure the facility meets international standards for genetic testing while adhering to local regulatory requirements.
Laboratory Design and Planning:
Develop a detailed layout and design for the laboratory, ensuring optimal workflow for genetic testing services
Design and oversee the setup of essential systems, including:
■ CO2 lines for biological equipment.
■ Laminar flow cabinets for sterile environments.
■ Laboratory negative pressure systems for controlled air circulation.
■ Advanced air conditioning systems for temperature and humidity regulation.
■ Power supply systems for advanced instrumentation with backup solutions.
■ Waste disposal systems, including hazardous waste management protocols.
Installation Oversight:
Supervise the procurement, delivery, and installation of laboratory equipment and critical infrastructure.
Work with contractors, technicians, and engineers to ensure the accurate setup of systems and compliance with the design specifications.
Oversee calibration and testing of laboratory equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.
Regulatory and Compliance Assurance:
Ensure all systems and infrastructure comply with local and international standards for laboratory facilities.
Liaise with regulatory bodies as needed to ensure setup aligns with licensing requirements.
lder Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers, scientific teams, and vendors to align installation activities with overall project timelines.
Provide regular progress updates to stakeholders, highlighting key milestones and addressing any challenges.
Quality Assurance and Handover:
Conduct final inspections to verify that all systems meet operational requirements and safety standards.
Deliver a comprehensive handover report, including operational manuals and maintenance schedules.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Laboratory Science, or related fields (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and setting up laboratory facilities.
Proven expertise in managing the installation of laboratory infrastructure
Strong understanding of power supply systems for advanced biological instrumentation.
Familiarity with laboratory waste disposal systems and hazardous waste protocols.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Preferred:
Experience in setting up advanced molecular biology laboratories.
Knowledge of international laboratory safety and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 15189, WHO guidelines).
Proficiency in Amharic is advantageous.
Contract Terms:
Duration: Fixed Contract
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
Reporting to: Project Manager, Addis Genetic Testing Center (AGTC).
