The Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) invites qualified candidates to apply for the following vacant position:

Directorate/Office: Finance and Admin Directorat

Reports To: Head, Finance

Location/Placement: Addis Ababa

II. Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to maintain proper books of accounts, prepare payment vouchers and journal entries, process accounting transactions and financial statements, enter data into the accounting system, perform reconciliations, and prepare reports in compliance with EPHA's financial policies and international accounting standards. The accountant will also be responsible for producing financial statements and activity reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper books of accounts, prepare payment vouchers and journal entries, and process accounting transactions.

  • Enter all financial data into the computer/accounting system, ensuring accurate reconciliation and preparation of reports.

  • Ensure all payments are supported by appropriate documentation and verification before processing.

  • Write checks based on approved payment vouchers and prepare cash transfer letters.

  • Reconcile bank statements with books of accounts and ensure all discrepancies are resolved.

  • Prepare and submit financial statements and activity reports in accordance with EPHA policies and international standards.

  • Ensure that all payments (supplier invoices, taxes, etc.) are processed in a timely manner, in line with approved budgets and plans.

  • Maintain and file all financial documents and reports in an organized manner.

  • Ensure that planned activities are executed in accordance with the approved annual plan and budget.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors.

  • Verify and ensure that documentation and authorization are in place before effecting payments.

  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Education

  • MA/MBA/ACCA in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience, OR

  • BA/BSC Degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, or related fields with 3-4 years of relevant experience.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Peachtree, QuickBooks or similar).

  • Knowledge & skill in IPSAS 

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
