About SHAMIDA Ethiopia:

SHAMIDA is a local non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable children and women in Ethiopia through various development programs. 

Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced General Practitioner to provide comprehensive medical care to children aged 0-8. In this role, you will collaborate closely with caregivers and medical staff to promote health and wellness, diagnoses and treat a variety of pediatric conditions, and uphold the highest standards of care. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in this field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Examine patients for illness or injury and develop treatment plans that may include medications, therapies, and necessary referrals.

  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses and conditions.

  • Practice active listening and maintain excellent communication with patients and staff, prioritizing patient concerns.

  • Provide preventive care services, including screenings, vaccinations, and health education, to help patients maintain good health and prevent illness.

  • Manage chronic conditions in child patients to prevent complications.

  • Coordinate health care with other medical professionals.

  • Conduct capacity-building training for nannies and staff to ensure comprehensive health care and treatment.

  • Educate patients about medical conditions, treatment options, and preventive care strategies such as nutrition, exercise, and hygiene.

  • Perform physical examinations, tests, or procedures to diagnose patients.

  • Document treatments, ongoing progress notes, and test results for each patient.

  • Collaborate with other physicians and support staff as a team to reach accurate diagnoses.

  • Recommend laboratory tests, such as white blood cell counts and blood sugar tests, and interpret the results as needed.

  • Comply with all legislation applicable to the practice of medicine.

  • Maintain accurate medical records for all patients.

  • Prescribe medications, treatments, or therapies to patients.

  • Consult with other doctors regarding the specialized needs of certain patients.

  • Attend hospital visits when necessary.

  • Perform tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree(MD) from a recognized university.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a General Practitioner, with a focus on pediatrics.

  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children.

  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English.

  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
