Job Description

The Senior Finance Manager will play a critical role in enhancing the financial management capacity of the finance department. By overseeing and managing finance operations for DANIDA-funded projects, this position aims to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial processes and to prepare and present timely financial reports. The Senior Accountant will coordinate and collaborate with ADRA Denmark, to submit timely monthly finance report and ensuring donor requirements and organizational standards are met.

The position is considered “key staff” related to ADRA DK funded projects/ programs as stipulated in the Partnership Agreement with ADRA Denmark section 4.3.  This implies that ADRA Denmark must be consulted in the hiring process and prior to any changes/transfers of such key staff.

Organization: ADRA Ethiopia

Location: Based in Addis Ababa and frequent travels to project sites.

Reporting To: Finance Director of ADRA Ethiopia

Project Scope: All DANIDA-funded projects in collaboration with the partner organizations 

Contract Type: One year with the possibility of extension

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Accounting Operations

  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.

  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare month-end close procedures.

  • Prepare financial statements with the required donor reporting format such as Budget Control Reporting (BCR).

  • Prepare monthly budgets control analysis and provide explanation for any variances

2. Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present timely results to the Finance Director.

  • Analyze financial information and summarize the financial status of projects.

  • Utilize advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, V-lookup) to prepare monthly donor reports in the required BCR template.

  • Monthly online meeting with ADRA Denmark to review reports

3. Compliance and Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and donor requirements.

  • Plan, assign, and review staff work and financial procedures to maintain accurate financial records and to facilitate smooth and timely implementation and financial reporting.

  • Assist with internal and external audits to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.

4. Technical Support and Capacity Building

  • Provide technical advice to the project accountants and management at Addis level and at field office level (currently Gode).

  • Collaborate closely with partners such as VSF to ensure alignment on financial procedures and reporting.

  • Offer recommendations for improvements in accounting systems and procedures.

5. Strategic Contribution

  • Participate in setting financial planning (forecasting) processes.

  • Contribute to departmental goal-setting activities and detailed implementation plans.

6. Other 

  • Contribute to preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and abuse throughout all operations.

Job Requirements

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 

  • MBA in finance and accounting will be an added advantage.

  • Proven experience in a similar role, such as Financial Controller, Accounting Supervisor, Chief Accountant, or Senior Accountant etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (including V-lookups and pivot tables).

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.

  • Familiarity with SunPlus accounting software is mandatory

2. Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CMA & CPA) will be an added advantage.

  • Experience working with donor-funded projects, particularly DANIDA.

  • Experience in liaising with partner organizations.
