Job Description
The Matron Nurse Associate serves as a vital support to the Matron, managing the clinical responsibilities of nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient workflow. This role allows the Matron to dedicate time to quality enhancement initiatives, strategic planning, and administrative responsibilities. The Matron Nurse Associate acts as a bridge between the Matron and nursing staff, ensuring smooth operations, adherence to clinical standards, and consistent patient satisfaction.
Clinical Leadership:
Supervise the day-to-day clinical duties and responsibilities of nurses, ensuring delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Serve as the primary point of contact for nurses, handling any clinical issues, conflicts, or emergencies.
Ensure proper delegation of clinical tasks among nursing staff based on skills, qualifications, and patient needs.
Conduct routine rounds in clinical areas to assess patient care delivery, staff performance, and adherence to protocols.
Address immediate patient care concerns escalated by the nursing staff.
Ensure proper handovers during shift changes to maintain continuity of care.
Support for Matron's Quality Enhancement Activities:
Take responsibility for managing routine clinical functions while the Matron focuses on strategic quality enhancement initiatives.
Collaborate with the Matron to implement quality improvement programs and nursing policies.
Provide feedback to the Matron on clinical challenges that may impact patient safety and care quality.
Assist in monitoring and evaluating patient outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
Nursing Staff Management:
Organize staffing schedules, ensuring adequate nurse coverage in all shifts and clinical areas.
Assist in evaluating nursing staff performance and provide constructive feedback to encourage professional growth.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment among nursing staff.
Participate in the onboarding and orientation of new nursing staff to familiarize them with clinical procedures and hospital policies.
Education and Training:
Identify clinical training needs of the nursing staff and organize workshops, seminars, or on-the-job training sessions.
Provide guidance to nursing staff on handling complex patient cases or implementing new procedures.
Administrative Support:
Maintain accurate records of nursing staff attendance and patient assignments
Prepare and submit reports on clinical operations, patient safety incidents, or performance metrics to the Matron.
Support the Matron in implementing hospital policies and procedures across clinical areas.
Patient Care and Advocacy:
Act as a patient advocate by addressing concerns raised by patients or their families regarding nursing care.
Ensure the nursing team maintains professionalism and delivers compassionate care at all times.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to enhance the quality of patient care.
Supervisory Role:
Conduct routine supervision of nursing staff to ensure compliance with hospital protocols and standards.
Monitor the use of clinical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper functioning.
Assist in enforcing disciplinary measures, when necessary, to uphold hospital standards.
Crisis and Emergency Management:
Serve as the first responder to resolve any clinical emergencies or staff shortages in real-time.
Coordinate with the Matron and other department heads during hospital-wide emergencies or crises.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent.
Experience: minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in a senior nursing role, with proven leadership in a clinical setting.
Current licensure from EFDA
Strong understanding of clinical protocols, patient safety standards and nursing best practices.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage stress and adapt to fast-paced healthcare environments.
