Job Description
The Farm Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing all financial aspects of grape production operations, including tracking farm-related costs, expenses, fixed assets, petty cash, payment processes, and inventory management. This role will also include inventory counting and reporting to the head office in accordance with the stipulated timelines.
Farm Accounting & Financial Reporting:
Maintain accurate financial records for all farm-related operations, focusing on grape production.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports detailing farm costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overheads associated with grape farming.
Track and report on variances between actual and budgeted expenses for farm operations.
Expense Management:
Monitor and track all operational expenses related to grape farming, including but not limited to:
Vineyard supplies (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation systems)
Labor costs (both seasonal and full-time staff)
Farm equipment and machinery maintenance
Utility costs (water, electricity)
Analyze expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
Fixed Asset Management:
Oversee the acquisition, depreciation, and disposal of fixed assets (e.g., farm equipment, machinery, and infrastructure like trellises, irrigation systems).
Maintain an up-to-date asset register with detailed information on each asset's cost, useful life, and depreciation schedules.
Ensure the proper allocation of asset costs in accordance with accounting principles and tax regulations.
Petty Cash Management:
Maintain and manage petty cash for the farm, ensuring appropriate use of funds for operational needs.
Track petty cash expenditures, ensuring all receipts and documentation are properly filed and reconciled.
Prepare and submit petty cash reports on a regular basis.
Payment Processing:
Manage and process payments related to farm operations, including payments to suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
Ensure that all invoices and payments are accurate and processed in a timely manner.
Monitor payment schedules to ensure no late fees or missed payments.
Coordinate with the accounts payable team to ensure smooth processing and documentation of payments.
Inventory Management & Reporting:
Conduct regular inventory counts of farm supplies, including fertilizers, machinery, tools, and any consumables used in grape farming.
Track the movement of inventory (e.g., usage, replenishment) and ensure proper stock levels are maintained.
Prepare detailed inventory reports and submit them to the head office as per the stipulated timelines.
Ensure inventory records are accurate and up to date, providing management with real-time data on stock levels.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
Assist in preparing farm operation budgets, including projected costs for labor, supplies, equipment, and farm maintenance.
Track actual farm costs against budgeted figures and report discrepancies to management.
Develop strategies to optimize costs and improve financial performance within the farm operations.
8. Other Duties as Assigned:
Assist in any additional accounting-related tasks or special projects as requested by her/his management.
Education:
MA/BA Degree in Accounting or Finance and Accounting or related fields.
Experience:
4 Years for MA Degree or 6 Years for BA Degree in inspection, Controlling and financial analysis related activities.
