Job Description
Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.
PUI works in 10 areas of intervention and distinguishes itself by the implementation of an integrated approach in its response. This method aims to identify and understand the needs of all those affected by a crisis. Our teams come together to bring a rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity.
PUI in Ethiopia:
Following the north Ethiopia conflict which erupted in 2020 and the reports of recurrent drought which is affecting the life and livelihood of millions in different regions of Ethiopia, PUI decided to contribute its part to address the humanitarian needs triggered by both manmade and natural disasters. PUI has been registered with FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organization (ACSO) since June 22, 2022, to enable the organization to operate legally in the country.
and has been providing humanitarian assistance in Afar and Benishangul Gumuz Regional States addressing the needs of population affected by both manmade and natural disasters. The organization has been exploring the potential gaps in terms of humanitarian assistance in the regions where it is currently intervening and other regions.
The current projects in Afar and Benishangul Gumuz regions are mainly focusing on creating better access to health and nutrition services for conflict and drought affected population. PUI is working in collaboration with local health authorities in providing support to revitalize the conflict affected health systems in those regions. In Metekel zone of BGRS, PUI is implementing humanitarian assistance in Debatie, Bullen, Dangur and Pawi woredas while in Afar, PUI is supporting nutrition services in Abala town, Abala rural woreda, Berhale, Wasama and Dallol woredas of Afar region in Kilbati Rasu zone.
PUI is working with Expertise France to integrate SRH and GBV protection activities in its ongoing project in Afar region targeting Abala area.
For this purpose, PUI is actively recruiting new staff in various disciplines of health, PSS and protection to be part of Roving Protection and Medical Team (RPMT) based in Abala town, Afar region, Kilbati Rasu zone and support four health canters in Abala and Wasama woredas.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and supported by the RPMT Medical Doctor, the Nurse provides technical support to nursing staff in supported health facilities to provide quality primary health cares including vaccination, OPD consultation, injection and dressing and health awareness sessions. S/he follows national primary Health protocols and universal standards to ensure quality and continuity of care and will ensure the implementation of proper infection prevention and control practices in the health facilities. H/She will work in collaboration with other RPMT members to enhance integration of GBV protection and management into primary health services at targeted health care facilities.
A-PATIENT CARE
Ensure and conduct the medical consultations with full history taking, clinical examination and provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment accordingly following the protocols and universal precautions
Work with the HC staff and the RPMT on identification and referral of GBV survivors or at-risk individuals among the patients
Identify the gaps in required supplies and equipment in provision of services and discuss with the PM to provide them according to the scope of the project resources
Assess and identify patients’ health needs.
Identify gaps and prepare on-the-job and capacity building trainings for health facility staff in collaboration with other RPMT members
In the role of clinician, manage the cases under his/her line of technical expertise, but also provide nursing care according to the need of the patient.
Adhere to his/her level of therapeutic standards.
Support the HC staff in conducting proper triage of cases
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with Universal standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Ensure coordination and continuity of care through verbal and written reports and coordination with the other health staff.
Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment
Provide individual health promotion during consultations
Delegate the treatment cares (distribution of drugs, injections, dressings…) to Nurse assistant
Manage and report any suspected communicable disease case according to Première Urgence Internationale’s protocols and national Disease Surveillance guidelines
Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team
Record on a readable manner the health status and medical prescription
Participate in the follow-up of the waste management according to the waste management procedures
Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey according to the needs and as directed.
Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state.
B-MANAGEMENT OF AN EFFICIENT REFERRAL SYSTEM
Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means
Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
Identify and refer patients and survivors of GBV who require case management as well as mental health consultation
C-MEDICAL DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING
Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book
Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data
Participate actively in the early warning system and the outbreak response plan
Collect general information about the people living conditions
Participate to the assessment of health needs
Participate to the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration
Ensure an oral hand over at every team change over, draw attention to any notable events during the shift
Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue.
Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs.
D-INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL REPRESENTATION
Participate in any training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing cares and duties
Participate actively in meetings when required
The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are not exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project needs. The employee could be requested to perform other tasks as his/her Line Manager may judge necessary.

Master’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing and valid professional license to practice the work.
Similar experience of 5 years for first degree or 3 years for MSc

Proficiency in MS Office.
Knowledge of the community of Afar
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Language:
