In Ethiopia, MAXAM is involved in the Kurmuk Project, which aims to improve the mining sector's safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
Job Overview
As a Technical Services Engineer at MAXAM, you will ensure safe and efficient blasting operations at the Kurmuk Gold Project. Key responsibilities include:
As a MAXAM employee, you are accountable for the following:
Comply with Maxam and Allied Gold HSEQ policies.
Identifying, understanding, and addressing HSEQS hazards and risks.
Demonstrating behavior that is consistent with the MAXAM HSEQS Vision and Values and work within prescribed boundaries, including required behaviors, company policies, standards, procedures, and legislation requirements.
Collaborating with others in pursuing HSEQS goals.
Seeking opportunities for learning to improve HSEQS performance.
Conduct/participate in regular safety and quality audits.
Conduct the production operations correctly and safely according to Quality Control Plan and the Occupational Health and Safety standard.
Ensure that all relevant forms are completed as required by the procedures and instructions as laid down in the Quality System.
Identify opportunities for MAXAM to improve client service, efficiency, or productivity.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Train on basic blast design using RIOBLAST – software for blast design, simulation (tie up), fragmentation and vibration and dilution control.
Provide technical improvement programs, including KPI analysis, technical recommendations and action plan, measurement, and evaluation of results.
Control the blast process and ensure that the handling of the MAXAM products is being the most adequate in terms of safety and product quality (product type, quantities per hole and target density).
Supervise bulk product manufacturing in the MMU’s and Blasting services.
Report daily, weekly, and monthly to our client representative and Maxam Headquarters management regarding occurrences, progress, achievements, incidents, held meetings, instructions, KPI evolution, blast information, etc…. including but not limited to the following:
Truck calibration.
MMU’s Raw Material consumption.
VOD analysis.
Cup density.
Fragmentation measurements
Vibration measurements
Blast Recordings
Blast and Tie-Up Designs
Provide technical support: product quality control, troubleshooting, investigation service and safety trainings.
Establish and maintain a safe area and productive work area for the employees on the pit.
Manage X-Energy Technology at Site level.
Ensure a responsible hand-over to the oncoming shift at the end of each shift.
Other technical/reporting requests instructed from Technical Superintendent within reasonable limits.

Requirements*
Education: BSc in Mining Engineering.
Experience: 4+ years in mining operations (blasting, drilling, or related activities).
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driving license.
Languages: Fluent in English and local language; additional languages are a plus.
Soft Skills: Leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, and ability to work under pressure.
