In Ethiopia, MAXAM is involved in the Kumuruk Project, which aims to improve the mining sector's safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
Job Overview:
Ensure that the implementation, application, and adherence to HSEQ management systems in the workplace is carried out in compliance corporate guidelines.
HSEQS Generic Accountabilities and Authorities:
Comply with Maxam and Allied Gold HSEQ policies.
Identifying, understanding, and addressing HSEQS hazards and risks.
Demonstrating behavior that is consistent with the MAXAM HSEQS Vision and Values and work within prescribed boundaries, including required behaviors, company policies, standards, procedures, and legislation requirements.
Collaborating with others in pursuing HSEQS goals.
Seeking opportunities for learning to improve HSEQS performance.
Conduct/participate in regular safety and quality audits.
Conduct the production operations correctly and safely according to Quality Control Plan and the Occupational Health and Safety standard.
Ensure that all relevant forms are completed as required by the procedures and instructions as laid down in the Quality System.
Identify opportunities for MAXAM to improve client service, efficiency, or productivity.
Health And Safety:
Promote the risk prevention policy and the guidelines derived therefrom, considering the corresponding annual workplace activities prevention plan.
Ensure compliance with prevention regulations, and procedures at all levels of the workplace.
Develop the Risk Labour Prevention management system in the workplace and ensuring that it complies with the legislation in force, keeping records of the various activities.
Ensure that the contents of the procedures related to the prevention management system are achievable and sustainable over time.
Advise, coordinate, and participate in the analysis of risks in the workplace to ensure their elimination or control.
Participate in the site safety observations, their recording, feedback, and continuous improvement process.
Promote and provide to the Senior HSEQ, all necessary support, and information related to the occupational Health & Safety and Safety Management system that helps achieve safety objectives, keeping all records.
Manage and maintain fluid communication with groups for the administration of the risk prevention and occupational health and safety at the workplace.
Maintain and update the skills of employees in the workplace with respect to occupational safety and health and risk prevention.
Actively participate and advise in the investigation of accidents.
Will ensure the correct use and delivery of PPE and its administration, as well as maintain the stock records and always ensuring available stock.
Environmental:
Promote, maintain, and implement the corporate environmental policy and the guidelines derived from it, considering the corresponding environmental plan for the workplace.
Collaborating in the execution of the annual internal audit plan.
Ensure compliance with environmental manuals and procedures at all work levels.
Promote and facilitate the senior HSEQ, the review of the environmental management system of the workplace, especially the incidents that may occur, maintaining an emergency plan.
Support in the investigation of each environmental incident that takes place in the subsidiary.
Maintain and upgrade the skills of employees in the workplace in relation to the environment.
Investigate the workplaces, facilities and equipment under your responsibility and ensure that environmental aspects are updated.
Maintain records of final waste disposal, as well as records of water, fuel, and electricity consumption.
Quality:
Comply with and ensure compliance with the corporate quality policy.
Audit the subsidiary and follow up on non-conformities, actions and propose preventive actions for improvement.
Ensure the implementation of corporate quality plans in the workplace that result in the achievement of total customer satisfaction, continuous improvement in procedures, processes, and products, as well as the reduction of non-quality costs.
Authority:
Stop the activity in case of any irregularities, such as unsafe conditions, environmental issues, breakdowns, suspected non-conforming product or unforeseen emergencies such as fire or suspected fire.

2. Technical Competencies:
✅ Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field.
Valid Driver’s License (for site visits and fieldwork).
Knowledge of mining or construction environmental regulations (preferred).
✅ Professional Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health & Safety, preferably in mining, construction, or industrial environments.
✅ Other Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
Fluency in English and the local language; additional languages are an advantage.
