KNCV Ethiopia is a local nonprofit organization established in Ethiopia and registered and accorded legal personality with registry number 7336 as a local organization in accordance with the civil society organization proclamation No 1113/2019. KNCV Ethiopia is dedicated to fight and end human suffering from TB and other related diseases in Ethiopia and support the country toward achieving the global END TB strategy. KNCV Ethiopia works toward contributing to the reduction of TB and related diseases in the country through implementation projects, research, and evidence generation. 

Background

KNCV Ethiopia will improve childhood TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention by scaling up evidence-based and high-impact interventions using an integrated TB service delivery model to identify undiagnosed children and achieve better TB outcomes. The goal of this SAS-P funded OptCARE project to optimize access to innovative TB prevention and treatment services for children and their families in six remote hard-to-reach zones of Ethiopia. KNCV Ethiopia will address the access and quality gaps in TB diagnosis and treatment through an integrated approach that will bring innovative healthcare solutions to remote rural areas.

The project will be implemented in south Omo &Ari (South Ethiopia regional state), Borena Zone (Oromia regional states), Liben Zone (Somali regional state), Dawro & Konta zones (Southwest Ethiopia regional state) of Ethiopia.

Purpose of the position

KNCV Ethiopia is looking for zonal coordinator who will coordinate and facilitate the implementation

of the OptCARE project in South Omo/Ari Zones (South Ethiopia regional states) of Ethiopia. 

The zonal coordinator will be stationed and co located in the zonal health Departments of the project zones.

Position in the organization

The zonal coordinator will report to the Executive Director/project Manager, and he/she will work in close coordination with the laboratory advisor.

Duties and responsibilities

The zonal coordinator will:

  • The overall project implementation in the zones and selected facilities 

  • Coordinate mapping and baseline assessment. 

  • Coordinate KNCV’s Ethiopia implementation of OptCARE project in the intervention the zone.

  • Put maximum effort to improve identification of children with presumptive TB, diagnosed using Xpert stool test, other WRDs, digital X-ray and make sure that diagnosed children are put on appropriate treatment. 

  • Making sure that children eligible for TPT are treated with appropriate regimen. 

  • Actively engage in the coordination and monitoring of the project sites on patient enrollment, sample collection, sample referral system and data collection. 

  • Supervise the overall specimen transport and results feedback system, communication and strengthening of the networks of the GeneXpert sites.

  • Provide technical support to the health facilities during supportive supervision and review meetings. 

  • Ensure that records are maintained at facility level and reported to KNCV Ethiopia central office. 

  • Prepare zone specific project progress reports to KNCV Ethiopia central office on a pre-defined basis.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop close working relationships with ZHD, Woreda health offices, health facilities and other stakeholders that have responsibility for strengthening and improving tuberculosis control and prevention program.

  • Serve as a technical resource person who will provide technical support to ZHD, woreda/district health office (WoHOs) and health facilities to coordinate TB control and prevention program activities.

  • Coordinate targeted supervision to study health facilities that required focused monitoring and supervision.

  • Assist Zonal/Woreda TB focal people to strengthen and coordinate an effective referral system of TB patients between health facilities and regional or sub-regional laboratories.

  • Coordinate and facilitate sample transportation and improve communication of test results between health facility and Xpert site.

  • Make sure that nutritional assessment and counselling of children with malnutrition and link to nutritional care.

  • Empower mothers and grandmothers to support treatment of their own children. 

  • Ensure HIV screening or early infant diagnosis is done for exposed infants.

  • Support implementation of the 4-month child formulations which are already part of the national guidelines. 

  • Support piloting a community-based DR-TB implementation to beef up the case finding effort.

  • I implement integrated screening for TB neglected tropical diseases.

  • Work with central KNCV Ethiopia staff to effectively address operational challenges such as training preparation, supply needs, and the timely cascade of the supportive supervision and review meetings.

  • Ensure the availability and utilization of sample processing and sample transportation SOPs related to the implementation of stool pilot work.

  • Regularly monitor the data collect, monitor the implementation and prepare report. 

  • Manage minor financial payment when there is a need.

  • Perform other duties appropriate to the position as needed and as assigned by the supervisor.

What does KNCV Ethiopia offer? 

  • A full-time contract for one year with the intention to extend the contract.

  • The salary is dependent upon education, relevant working experience and organizational scale.

Job Requirements

Who are we looking for?

  • BSc in health sciences field such as public health officer, Clinical nurse, MSc/MPH from a recognized university.

  • Previous experience as zonal project coordinator or equivalent experience in TB program

  • At least five years of work experience in TB, preferably in childhood TB

  • In-depth knowledge of TB from clinical and programmatic perspectives based on local NTP and WHO policies.

  • Sound knowledge of basic principles of childhood TB and the challenges associated with diagnosing childhood TB,

  • Experience in working with the zonal or regional TB program and building the capacity of health care workers in childhood TB will be preferred.

  • Knowledge of DR-TB is of added advantage. 

  • Experience working in community related TB activities. 

  • Experience in capacity building, mentoring and supervision of health facilities.

  • Skills to use Microsoft 365, virtual meeting platforms, and related software are desirable.

  • Computer literacy: competency with Microsoft Office, excel, internet and e-mail systems.

  • Experience working in non-Governmental organizations is desirable. 

  • Ability to perform tasks both individually and in teams.

  • Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload.

  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with culturally diverse partners.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English with additional fluency in the region- or zone-specific language. 

  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and partners.

  • Willingness to travel frequently within the zones.

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners at all levels (region, zones, districts, health facilities, and local community-based organizations).

  • Ability to work as part of a team independently.

  • Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload.
