Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI, https://ahri.gov.et) established in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations as a leprosy research institute made breakthrough contribution in understanding the immunology and eventual improved treatment (MDT) that changed the global landscape of leprosy epidemiology. Re-organized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 376/2016 as biomedical research, clinical trial and biomedical research capacity building arm of the Federal Ministry of Health. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Save the Children works to improve children's lives around the world. These three institutions are working in partnership on Research for Sustainable and Scalable Solutions (RESONATE)  for Under-immunization in Ethiopia and Nigeria. The project is a multidisciplinary research program aiming to improve vaccination uptake of Zero-dose and under-immunized children. To attain this aim and support the government effort and address the gaps in the immunization programme and following the formative study conducted in three regions of Ethiopia (Amhara, Oromia and Somali)BOOST (Better Opportunities for Optimal Services and Targeted immunization for ZD and UI children is implementing targeted interventions to address the root causes of immunization in equities. For evaluating the implementation of this intervention we are planning to conduct An implementation evaluation of BOOST intervention   in three regional states of Ethiopia. Thus, AHRI is seeking to appoint three associate researchers for the RESONATE project. The associate researchers will be part of the RESONATE research team at AHRI with frequent travel to the field site in Amhara, Oromia and Somali Regional states. The position holders are   expected to carry out administrative and scientific work in line with the study protocol with the following duties and responsibilities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), data collection tools and training materials

  • Plan, organize and train survey data collection team for the immunization coverage survey

  • Conduct interviews  in health facilities and in the community 

  • Conduct supportive supervision to support field data collectors in data collection.

  • Conduct quality control and consistency checking procedures periodically when the data collection is on progress(Data capturing using REDCaP built in tablets)

  • Communicate with the data manager and project coordinator for data quality control regularly.

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data , write a report and draft a manuscript

  • Assist in  dissemination of findings to policy makers, other stakeholders, and academic audiences

  • Contribute to preparation of journal articles and conference reports

  • Coordinate the project field work and implementation of activities alongside the project coordinator

  • Ensure effective communication between the multi-disciplinary RESONATE research team 

  • Coordinate the RESONATE team in other thematic area in achieving project milestone as assigned by senior staffs

  • Coordinate other related duties as assigned by the project

Job Requirements

 Qualification & Experiences:  MPH/MSc in public health or related fields

Experiences:

  • Minimum of 5 years experiences of work in MPH/MSc in public health or related fields

  • An experience in survey work (immunization survey), project work and coordination is advantageous. 

  • Have adequate research experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods and published a minimum of three articles as first author or  six articles as co-author  in reputable journals

  • Demonstrated research communication and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrable organization and communication skill

Desired Competencies

  • Experiences in cluster survey

  • Knowledge of different quantitative and qualitative data management software and Microsoft excel applications

  • Knowledge and experiences in ODK or REDCAP data collection techniques

  • Practical STATA software experience and NVivo or MAXQDA,   has additional advantage

  • Knowledge of different data analysis and management techniques

  • Fluency in English communication (spoken & written) 

  • Fluency in Amharic, Afan Oromo  and Somaligna is advantageous

Number required: 3 (Three)

 Employment: Full time contract basis for three months with possible extension based on performance.

  Salary: 21,273 Birr/month including tax and pension
