Place of work: The Specialist will be based at EPHI, but will also travel to regions as found necessary.
Reported to: The Biomedical Engineer III will work under the Deputy Director General’s Office of Health Laboratory Services Laboratory Equipment and Information System Technology Development Directorate
Employment type: Permanent and as per your current salary or as per government scale for the position. Selected applicants will be recruited through the existing government transfer recruitment process, so that the organization you are currently working should allow you to be transferred to EPHI once you are selected for the position.
Job Summary
The Laboratory Equipment and Information Technology Development Directorate at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is responsible for ensuring the effective management, maintenance, and advancement of laboratory equipment. The directorate plays a crucial role in supporting public health research, disease surveillance, and diagnostic services by ensuring the availability, functionality, and optimization of laboratory equipment and digital health systems. Through continuous technical support, the directorate enhances the efficiency and reliability of laboratory operations across EPHI and affiliated health institutions. Biomedical Engineer/ Electrical engineer with biomedical professional license. Support the maintenance, installation, and management of laboratory equipment within the institution and reigns. The selected candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and operational reliability of laboratory equipment.
Objectives
To identify and recruit a qualified Biomedical Engineer/Electrical engineer with biomedical professional license.
To ensure the availability of technical expertise for laboratory equipment maintenance and management.
To enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of biomedical engineering services.
Scope of Work
The selected Biomedical Engineer/ Electrical engineer with biomedical professional license will be responsible for:
Maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment.
Installation and commissioning of new laboratory equipment.
Conducting training sessions for healthcare professionals and Biomedical Engineer/Technician on proper equipment usage and maintenance.
Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Performing preventive maintenance and risk assessments on all laboratory equipment.
Assisting in the procurement and evaluation of all laboratory equipment and spare parts.
Documenting maintenance activities and preparing technical reports.
A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering/ Electrical engineer with biomedical professional license.
Minimum of 6 of experience in laboratory equipment maintenance and management.
Strong knowledge of medical device regulations, safety protocols, and industry standards.
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of laboratory equipment.
Effective communication and training skills.
Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and asset management.
