Job Description

Empathy for Life Integrated Development Association (ELiDA) is a women-led, non-governmental civil society organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, women’s leadership, and peacebuilding initiatives across Ethiopia. ELiDA focuses on empowering women and marginalized groups through capacity-building, advocacy, research, and community-driven peace processes. As part of its mission, ELiDA is implementing the "Women Count for Peace" project in Tigray, Amhara, and Oromia regions to promote the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and UNSC Resolution 1325.

In the aftermath of Ethiopia's internal conflicts, including in Tigray, ELiDA recognizes the urgent need to strengthen the participation of women in conflict resolution, transitional justice, mediation, negotiation, and leadership roles at all levels.

🎯 Key Objective of the Position

The Peace Building Project Officer will play a key role in implementing ELiDA’s peacebuilding and gender empowerment activities at the community and regional levels in Tigray. She will support efforts to enhance women's meaningful participation and leadership in post-conflict recovery processes, strengthen local women’s organizations, promote gender equality, and address gender-based violence (GBV) challenges.

This role requires strong field engagement, technical understanding of gender and peacebuilding, and close collaboration with local communities, civil society actors, and government stakeholders.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of community-based peacebuilding, GBV prevention, and post-conflict recovery initiatives aligned with project goals.

  • Facilitate grassroots training workshops, mentoring sessions, and awareness-raising activities for women’s groups, CSOs, youth groups, and local leaders.

  • Coordinate and mobilize women’s rights organizations to participate in peace forums, dialogues, and cross-regional networks.

  • Assist in the establishment and operationalization of local and regional women’s peace networks and advocacy platforms.

  • Conduct participatory needs assessments and community dialogues on post-conflict recovery, women’s leadership, and GBV issues.

  • Collaborate with local authorities and peace actors to create enabling environments for women’s participation in peacebuilding and transitional justice processes.

  • Monitor project activities, collect field data, and contribute to regular narrative and data-based project reports.

  • Support media advocacy campaigns to amplify women’s voices and promote social change around discriminatory norms.

  • Ensure all interventions apply conflict sensitivity, "do no harm," gender-responsive and inclusive approaches.

  • Provide technical support to local partners, community facilitators, and peace advocates.

  • Represent ELiDA in coordination meetings, peacebuilding clusters, and relevant local networks in Tigray Region.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Anthropology, International Development, Law, or related fields. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • At least 3–5 years of demonstrated experience in peacebuilding, post-conflict programming, gender mainstreaming, or GBV prevention, preferably in conflict-affected or humanitarian settings.

  • Solid understanding of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, UNSC Resolution 1325, transitional justice, and national dialogue processes.

  • Proven track record in field mobilization, facilitation of community dialogues, and participatory engagement strategies.

  • Experience working with women’s organizations, CSOs, youth-led movements, or local government authorities.

  • Strong skills in capacity-building, advocacy, and organizing cross-sectoral platforms and forums.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills with diverse stakeholders.

  • Practical understanding of conflict-sensitive programming and safeguarding principles.

  • Strong report writing, documentation, and data collection skills.

  • Fluency in TigrignaAmharic, and English is mandatory (oral and written).

Willingness to travel frequently to rural kebeles, sometimes under challenging conditions
