Job Description

To ensure full compliance with NBE regulations, implement enterprise-wide risk management (ERM) and mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management:

  • Implement NBE’s Risk Management Directive (MFI/24/2022), including credit, liquidity, operational, and market risks.

  • Conduct quarterly risk assessments and stress testing per NBE requirements.

  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs).

Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • NBE’s Prudential Standards (capital adequacy, loan classification, provisioning).

    • AML/CFT Proclamation No. 1176/2020 (KYC, transaction monitoring, reporting).

    • Consumer Protection Guidelines (MFI/12/2021).

  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports (e.g., AML, liquidity, large exposure reports) to NBE.

  • Conduct compliance training for staff on NBE updates.

Internal Controls & Governance:

  • Review policies to align with NBE directives and international best practices.

  • Liaise with external auditors and NBE inspectors during examinations.

  • Report material risks and compliance breaches to the Board Risk Committee.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s in Finance, Risk Management, Law, or Economics.

  • Experience: 5+ years in risk/compliance roles in MFIs or banks.

  • Certifications: Certified Risk Manager (CRM), CAMS, or ICA Diploma in Compliance.

  • NBE Regulatory Expertise:

    • Deep knowledge of NBE Microfinance Directives and AML/CFT laws.

    • Experience in regulatory reporting to NBE.

  • Skills:

    • Advanced risk assessment tools (e.g., COSO ERM, ISO 31000).

    • Strong leadership and stakeholder management.

    • Fluency in English & Amharic (report writing & presentations).
